One little problem in my way

Post by VanWinn » Wed Feb 21, 2007 7:48 pm

I have been working for quite a while now on our church website.  I started from knowing absolutely nothing about Joomla, or PHP and I now have a working site.  This was a lot of work!  I just moved the site from the local server on my computer to a hosted server.  After some  learning and tweaking I was able to get the site mostly functioning.  I have a little snag which is giving me trouble.  This is a probably a result of something I changed.  When I go to edit content and I click on the various edit buttons they open a blank pop-up window.  This happens  no matter which editor I use.  The title bar in the pop-up window shows a weird string now : {$lang_table_title} I am thinking that this may be a clue to the problem I am having.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I will keep trying to fix the problem but any help would be appreciated.

How do you access the back-end of your site?
with http://www.yoursite.com/administrator or http://yoursite.com/administrator
And how is the $mosConfig_live_site configured in your configuration.php ? with or without www. ?

Thank you for the reply.  I access my site via http://www.yoursite.com/administrator
In the Config. file the $mosConfig_live_site has the www just as above.  I recently changed this because the site wasn't working correctly and all the links seem to be showing up with my address twice and in the back-end all the button images were gone as well as other things were messed up.  Hope this sheds some light on the solution.

What browser do you use? Could you test it with another (e.g. FireFox)?

The blank WYSIWYG window + weird string in title bar {$lang_table_title} indicate that some variables cannot be loaded.
You already checked the most common problem ($mosConfig_live_site & URL with or without www. ?)

What are the permissions of the TinyMCE directories (/mambots/editors/tinymce/)?

Do you have .htaccess in use?
Could you disable it by renaming it into htaccess.txt? (to test if the problem is related)

Could you also test if all Joomla files are on the server?
Joomla Diagnostics is a helpful tool to check if all Joomla files have been uploaded correctly

The permissions are correct and I am not using .htaccess - it is already htaccess.txt

From the diagnostics it appears that the problem is related to "File does not contain _VALID_MOS." but i am not sure what this means or how to fix it.
Thank you again for your help

I'm affraid that your problem is not related to "File does not contain _VALID_MOS.".
Most files contain defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Restricted access' ); to prevent that it is being accessed directly. Only Joomla on the same site is allowed to use the files.

I guess that you changed the madeyourweb template. You can ignore those warnings...

Sorry, I am out of ideas...

The weird thing is that it worked when I was building it on my computer with the WAMP server software.  The template that I modified is jt_simplicity_blue.  Thanks for your help thus far.

;D OK I fixed it!!  This is the way it happens most of the time.  I fixed it but don't really know how I fixed it.  I think it had something to do with the JCE editor not transferring correctly.  I copied the whole editor directory over from a known working source.  This did the trick.
Thanks for the help, it did lead me to finding the answer to my problem.
