Hey guys,

I think this new forum is cool, but I really liked (and am really used to) the vBulletin structure.  If we could pitch in the $160 for a new vBulletin license, can we get that up and running instead of this BB?

Just seeing if anyone else really liked vBulletin.]

Absolutely no need whatsoever.

SMF has every option that vB offers and probably even more if you dig into their modifications repository. It's a fine forum system, trust me on this since I had to learn a lot of it inside out while implementing it on my Mambo site.

Well SMF does not have all features as vbullitin.

I am desperatly missing the "View first unread" feature, it is a mess to keep track of threads if you have to re-read the threads every time.

Show new replies to your posts.

It will take you to the first unread post in a topic. Also, clicking this in the boardindex will take you to the first unread post.

xenovanis, perhaps you can tell me if this is possible?  Is there a way to view all unanswered posts in a particular forum?  I found this to be helpful to see which posts needed attention.

That said, I personally favour SMF over vBulletin

In the beta version running on this site, it is currently not possible.  In the next release, it is possible - by a certain stretch.  That is, by sorting the recent topics by number of replies, ascending:

But again, this will not work until the next release is installed here.  Additionally, you can add the board, category, or a list of boards, like so:

But please note that these were also improved recently (it was one of the features I wanted to get into 1.1) and may not work entirely properly (specifically, page 2 won't always work) in this version.

Huh?  Looks fine to me. 

I agree. This forum is fast and seems pretty well endowed. I have 5 vBulletin licenses and would willing to donate a license to the cause if that is deemed the direction to go. I will however say that this is running quite nicely.

If the vote ends up vB over this, have an administrator PM me for a license if that is what everyone wants. I'm personally content with the way it is. It really is fast and I believe it may be kept open source and a propietary license free site. Nothing wrong with that either. I have the same arguments with myself everytime I compile an ATI driver for Linux. No one wants to taint the Kernel.


Additional: The vBulletin license is not needed by me and is collecting dust. It's an owned option license and the only thing needed is to register for updates. No reason to buy a license. The license would be transfered to opensourcematters.

They need to apply the effort  to future modifications.

i favor SMF over vBull. and yes,.. there are tons of add on goodies in SMF too.

if every thing simmers down and the site admins have spare time, i do believe they will be putting as much added functionalities.

No... that's not true at all. lol I also have an extra vB license if needed... I like SMF but let's be honest, it's far from vBulletin! 

I personally enjoy vb better, but the SMF system seems to be running just fine.  The only thing that I would really like is a new design that has more warmth.

These colors are just to stale and boring to look at and read through.

Give us some template options!  (I guess I could try and design something for smf, only done vb sites)

does anyone ( Predator ? ) have any clear reasons why vbulletin is better than SMF ?

From my experience it seems that SMF is much faster than vb ever was.  We're really enjoying the speed increase that we're seeing with the new hardware+smf.  Regarding the template, I'm working on one now that will tie in with the new joomla template.  it will be less 'drab' and offer some more contrast compared to this one.

I'm more then imperssed with this new forum system.  The new design in place, theres no need for vb.

Echo the above. Very nice and the new design didn't seem to stump the performance in the slightest. Keep up the good work.
