Event Registration

I am looking for some advice.  I am a volunteer webmaster for our church's website.  In the future, we may want to have online registrations for events (such as registration for youth/children's Sunday school, misc. events throughout the year, etc.).  What are good components on the J! Extensions site that I should be considering?  What are the good ones out there to look at?

This is THE question I registered to ask as well... specifically, I can't find a program or CMS extension on the web of any kind that allows for a backend user to create events with sign-up opportunities for volunteers, who can then see available opportunties, sign up for a specific time slot, and (ideally) get a confirmation/reminder e-mail of their commitment. I would think that there is a relatively large demand for this type of thing, if for nothing other than civic/church groups, etc.

So far, I can't seem to visualize extensions that already exist (whether calendar based or event registration) that could be 'tweaked' to this purpose even. There are a handful that exist online within full web-design packages, but they are (IMHO) exorbitantly expensive, and cannot be purchased as separate components or coding for a website.

So, anyone with any help on this will get a free cookie from me. At least. :)

Failing that, EventHQ (http://www.eventhq.co.uk) is available now. This is a stand alone system similar to the Thyme calendar project with a Joomla component that can allow users to display a list of events, tickets and prices with things like early-registration discounts/availability being kept up to date. EventHQ is specifically designed to handle conferences, workshops and seminars and can handle both free and paid-for events.

The component is still in development but let me know if there is interest and I can look at pushing the release out faster.

Cheers, Ianh
