I would be interested in organizing or helping to organize a Detroit Michigan based Joomla! event / day.  Anyone in the area who is interested, feel free to contact me...
Are there any guidelines for what should go into a Joomla! Day?

This event has been organized and we are looking for participants and attendees...

Hi,

there are some plans to organize a Joomla!Day in Toronto. I know it is not very close but may be it might be ok for you too? In that case I would suggest that you write a short post in the other thread and may be this becomes an even bigger event.

Cheers & Thank's for the suggestion

Alex

Hi Ssevo,

could you please make sure that the person in charge of this event contacts me. For hosting a Joomla!Day an official request and approval is required.

Many thanks

Alex

Hey Alex, I have been in touch with Amy Stephen for about the past month... let me know what I need to do in order to host an official Joomla! Day...

Hi, can you send me a PM with your mail address?

If you are in contact with Amy I assume she helped you setting up the local JUG. Basically a JUG and a meeting within this group is something which is different from what we understand as a Joomla!Day.

The Joomla!Day is for a far broader community e.g. if you check out http://www.joomladayusa.org/ you see the event is for a huge group approx 200 people.

Please don't get me wrong I'm not saying that you can not organize a Joomla!Day but we have some rules specially in using the name for this. If you send me your mail I can provide you with the papers and if we then agree upon those rules we can discuss.

BTW: Have you seen that there is a Joomla!Day in Toronto and one planed for New York? May be you can combine forces and support those teams?

Alex

Ya, Amy did mention that, I am sure the confusion is on my part... I was getting the impression that there was not a formalized process for initiating a Joomla! Day and it was something left up to regional initiative.  I see now that it is quite structured and organized and I intend to play by the rules... at the very least we will create a Detroit JUG, but I would love to be a part of organizing a Detroit area Joomla! Day.  I realize that this is a bigger strategic decision... but I would still like to pursue it with whatever steps are necessary.

I am quite involved in the Detroit area graphics and media community.  I have worked closely with local schools & colleges on several events through the Michigan chapter of Siggraph, www.semafx.com  These events routinely bring out hundreds of people and I see Joomla fitting into that community very well and immediately taking advantage of a graphics / web / media community of hundreds of people.

I looked at the threads for Toronto and New York, I could certainly rework my efforts to promote those events and focus our efforts this year on the creation of a Detroit JUG.  In the long run, I am very committed to the Detroit area community and I would love to be a part of bringing an event of this caliber and attention to the Detroit area, just let me know what I have to do...

I look forward to receiving the paperwork and in the meantime I will work towards revamping my marketing campaign to focus on the formation of a Detroit JUG.  Some cross promotion efforts are already underway, but I will do as much damage control as possible without sacrificing the promotion of the event.

Thanks Alex, talk to you soon!

One more post, Shayne, and you can PM to your heart's content.  8)

I hope I didn't cause any confusion. Joomla! Users Groups are very flexible and can be started and run without any special permissions. Joomla! Day's require the involvement of the Joomla! Core Team, through Alex.  I have no authority on these matters - no Joomla! badge and no special Joomla! powers (except what I get through the software!).

We talked awhile back and then recently after you posted in this forum area. You did the exact right thing to do - to work with Alex on a Joomla! User Day.

Detroit is a GREAT place to build a strong Joomla! community. So, I hope you are able to get this all organized. That is a well populated .area of the US and I am certain could be a very successful place to get Joomla! rolling.

Alex - would you mind sharing a copy of the rules/process for a Joomla! Day? Just email me if you are able to share.

Thanks!
Amy :)

Is this still happening? I've been out here at the J! Day West, and ready to start doing some Joomla organizing in Michigan. I'm in East Lansing now, but a Detroit native. I want to help get the word out any way I can and definitely will be working towards establishing a Mid-Michigan user group if there isn't one already...

Thanks!

Matt
