What I feel the Joomla.org site is missing.

I will admit, I'm relatively new to Joomla. But I have worked on several sites using other systems such as Gallery, Xoops, and Drupal.  What I find severly lacking in this project, and I'm sure is a deterrant to many new users has nothing even to do with the coding of the project.

You guys need a repository, or database, or links, or anything to point users to Joomla modules, components, bots, and templates!  I mean, finding simple modules is a pain in the arse... Please take a look at the Xoops site. See how all modules developed for that project can be easily found? The core modules are excellent, but to add additional functionality is impossible, because as a new user there is no way to find anything.

Now the recent website that lists hundreds of Joomla templates is a huge step in the right direction.
That is the end of my rant...

Now if anyone knows where to get an easy to use "Send this page to a friend" module please let me know!
Otherwise, I'm just gonna have to write my first Joomla module for myself.
:P

Have you checked http://developer.joomla.org and looked at all the projects there? Or are you saying it's not easy to find on that site?

I would think the built-in email link sends the page to a friend, but maybe it doesn't do exactly what you want....?

Login to your sites administrator, go to Site > Global Configuration > Content. Next to "email icon" choose "Show", next to "icons" choose "Hide". Now go to you language file under "Site" find the following text

Code: Select all

DEFINE('_CMN_EMAIL','E-mail');
Change it to

Code: Select all

DEFINE('_CMN_EMAIL','Send this page to a friend');
No module needed.

I agree with you, the developer.joomla.org site is not as user friendly as joomla itself (guess were spoiled  :)). That site is aimed more at developers then end users(wich I understand and support). An official repository with finished cmt's only would be nice.
There's a thread more or less about that here:

Everything takes time.

As I understand this, the dev team is considering it or at least they are aware of the need.

I've definately seen the developer site. But as stated above it's geared more towards developers than end users.

Am I being greedy in what I want from something that's free? Eh... maybe.  :-*
But I mean Joomla is awesome in other respects other wise I wouldn't be using it. And these are minor things that I think can be improved.

Edit: Forgot to to say thx for the email in the admin thing. I'm gonna go try that out. Dunno how I missed it.

Marko, just look at all the new stuff we've received from you guys the past two months!
How could we ever learn to be patient when we're spoiled like that?  :D :D
Keep up the good work!

Eagerly looking forward to what's next,
Bene

Ok, I had a feeling you wanted something more than the forge. I guess I can understand the end user wanting to look at something more friendly. Guess I'm used to the forge and projects.
