Something like this? It's not in the listing of a component itself at the moment, though the developers of those components can place a link to this in their description.

one list of all mods would be the bomb for newbies like me. the subfolders by company won't help us. we need to be able to see what is out there and what's left to develop... gratzi

We'll put it on the wish list.

Stand alone and parents extensions

1590 extensions and counting

If you go the the JED to Gallery you find 83 extensions listed.
It's a nightmare ... but hey .. lots of them are not galleries, they are plugins and modules that only work with a specific extension.
Sometimes they are from different developers, other they are not and its only a way to turn an extension more visible. It worked... but now looks like spam!
And now its simple difficult to, for instance, look for modules and plugins for zoom gallery!

You have already a specific plugins sections for some extensions.. why not evolve for a system that organize things as:
- stand alone
- dependent extensions (with a link for the parent extensions... just like a menu system!)
So when we find an extension we could easily find their dependents or parents.

At least you need to mark extensions as stand alone or specific extension.
You could mark them by hand now... but for the future the parent one should be listed first and them, the person who submits the dependents should choose and create the link.
It would create problems with hierarchical submitting and removing, but a new organization should avoid such problems.
Some day we can't find anything at all!!

At http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic ... #msg745029
had already proposed that  Extension Specific Plugin  - should be renamed to "Extension Specific Tools" to acommodate plugins and modules for specific extensions.

I think the idea of component specific modules being listed underneath the component...

same with mambots and other files directly related...

for example, PUArcade has about 10 modules and a mambot... if they were all listed under one heading, would simplify searches, save time and bandwidth, along with making it easy to see whats available for a component b4 you download it

Hi steve-o-meter,

For now we can provide the 'Extension Specific Plugins' Category.
When we see that a certain amount of extensions related to one particular extension are listed then we open a new category for this with a link to the "main" extension in category description.

*PU is on the Todo  ;)

PS: Could you please have a look at your signature. Max 4 lines allowed.

The other thread is quite old and this thread is already merged once, so we let them to be separate. But it's good that you link to the other thread as reference.

Thanks!  :)

Just wanted to say thanks to the JED boys! You guys do great work and always seem to be 'on top' of it.

Thanks for breaking dcsFlashGames out into it's own category. That's been kind of busy with extra developers and all the extensions were adding up in the 'sports and games' category.

All-in-all....nice work!

Are you talking about web design techniques or something related to the extension site?
thanks

well im asking in order to know how to better build an extention.

as ive said before, we need an area where actual developers can talk, realtime...

what we need is a developers chatroom, or something...

all i want to know is if and how to put html into mosToolTip, ive asked in other area's that look more appropriate, but nobody has replied.

someone, please clue me in, and i will be thankful and happy

and please dont just point me to the api, because it has nothing about whats allowed into the fields except (this is int, this is string)

I think the forums is the cleanest means of communicating and it leaves a nice trail of what's been discussed. A chatroom would probably not have this ability. Plus it may put more demand on the developers in general.
If the API can't help then dig into the overlib library. If I remember right, the mosToolTip is just a nice PHP wrapper to an overlib call, but it's been awhile since I've used it.

Just some thoughts.

im thinking im gonna go ahead and make a site with chat for joomla developers, and have a wiki where people can post their solutions

would you like to do this as a joint project dcs?

Thanks for the offer! I don't have much spare time these days (still at work) so I'd have to decline right now.
Maybe you can solve the chatroom idea by slight mods to what is here.
I know were getting way OT here, but what about simply using ICQ/AIM/Y!/MSN clients? If this forum let you put that info in an easy place then you could just fire up a chat there?
The problem you'll end up facing is getting the developers you need to the site...then they have another site to visit and need to keep a chat open. If you use something they already have installed on the desktop, your success will be much greater. I personally run ubuntu linux and gaim all the time.

If you go with a chat and plan on using joomla for your site then use FlashChat it's amazing at $5.00

Thanks again for the offer though!
