Hi,
We are planning to organise Joomla!Day in Brunei in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Education during the INFORAMA SHOWCASE 2007. INFORAMA is an annual ICT activity of the ministry for primary, seconday, tertiary institutions and public. During the INFORAMA SHOWCASE 2007, there will be booths by ICT vendors and exhibits of the students projects/activities competitions throughout the year. At the same time, some seminar and workshop will be organise.
As a main user and supporter of LINUX and Joomla, I have managed to get a booth for the event. The event has been scheduled to be from 26 - 29 August 2007 at The Mall, Gadong, Brunei Darussalam, I'm contemplating to hold the Joomla!Day nearby the venue which we have been offered FOC the room which can accomodate about 150 people.
To make it a success, I'm hoping that Joomla developer will be able to join us for the presentations..
I shall look forward to your feedback guys!!
Rgds;
Hj Azaman

Hi Alex,
Yes, I'm one of the co-ordinators. In fact, I'm in the Steering Committee for the INFORAMA. I shall look forward to the participation of any of the Joomla developers for the planned event. At present, I'm working out the confirmation for the venue. Please let me know if any of you will be able to participate.

Re: Brunei Joomla!Day @ INFORAMA SHOWCASE 2007
Hi,
please get in contact with me as Joomla!Day is a reserved brand and you need to be approved to be allowed to use this name for your event.
One critical issue is that a Joomla!Day is not allowed to be used for promoting other projects or kind of events. So any joined event arrangement needs to clearly find their two ways of being communicated (e.g. separated websites aso.).
If you can get in contact with me then we could easily arrange a first introduction and then someone from the events team could further on support you in getting everything organized.
Thx

Re: Brunei Joomla!Day @ INFORAMA SHOWCASE 2007
Hi Alex,
TQ for the response. I'm aware of that and as it is our intention to ask from Joomla whether we can organise it. In that case if it is going to be possible to oragnise it separately, perhaps we can plan for some other date subject to your approval. Please let us know how shall we proceed this further.
Shall await your favorable response.
Thanks
Hj Azaman
ps: I can't seem to find your email address...(can't email you directly )

Re: Brunei Joomla!Day @ INFORAMA SHOWCASE 2007
Hi,
k sended you a PM with the email address.
Basically you do not need to set different dates or separate both events. We are fine with using existing resources (such as venues) for saving expenses or similar combinations.
The concept behind the definition is that we want to prevent that events which have normally a kind of commercially character do not use the name of Joomla! to get more attention than without it. That's why it is important for us those events are separated from their presentation.
A good example how that worked is the Joomla!Day Sydney and the OpenCebit in Sydney. Both had been in the same city at the same time and we joined forces to staff both events. However the Joomla!Day was separately hosted and organized from the local community and with that we have not something like a focus on the commercial event.
From my perspective there are several ways to easily solve those issues and my primary reason to speak about them is that you need to be aware of them. You will find more details when I send you the Joomla!Day charter.
Cheers and thx for the prompt feedback

Re: Brunei Joomla!Day @ INFORAMA SHOWCASE 2007
Hi Hj and Alex,
I'm Dr. Francis Sarmiento III from the UNDP-International Open Source Network ASEAN+3. URL: http://iosn.net
The group pushes the FOSS advocacy through its various capacity-building projects and activities within its geographical mandate comprised of 13 ASEAN countries of which Brunei is one of them.
I understand that the Brunei LUG is organizing its 2007 INFORAMA Showcase on 26-29 August to celebrate SFD2007 and Joomla! will be organizing a future event with Brunei LUG, too. However, as we cannot find a way to contact Brunei LUG for a possible collaboration with this event, may I request you (Hj) to please contact us (IOSN ASEAN+3) and provide us with information with regard to Brunei INFORAMA Showcase 2007.
In one of the FOSS events in the Philippines organized by the Insitute of Popular Democracy (http://ipd.org.ph) last March 2007, we were fortunate to meet in person Johan Janssens who is the Project Manager and Lead Developer of Joomla!.
Alex, I would appreciate it very much if you can extend our warmest regards to Johan.
