Perhaps an odd question but why is this here?

I'm browsing the forums and I'm reading all of this great information about this great content management system called Joomla and I'm wondering to myself "why am I reading content in the forums and not in a content management system?". If Joomla is so great why aren't the people most heavily committed to it actually using it for what it's intended?
Maybe overlooked but you have to ask yourself what's so wrong with Joomla that it's developers pass it over for forums software to manage their news, announcements and content? Food for thought...

A CMS is good for some forms of communication - it isn't neccesarily good for what you just exhibited which is asking a question. It's a matter of using the right tool for the right job, and integrating them into a cohesive system which is what you find here. It also about giving your users multiple tools for communicating, letting them choose which one works best for them.
Ofcourse you're free to use a CMS in any way you choose.

Correct me if I am wrong but *ALL* of these Joomla sites ARE using Joomla. Often modified, for example 'bridging' with other scripts, and utilising custom - even commercial SEF solutions, but Joomla none the less.
I think each sub-domain is a separate Joomla installation.
As far as I can tell though, the Joomla team do indeed eat their own dog food.
Actually the forge developer.joomla.org is probably plain outside code without any bridge - but the rest of my observations are correct.

What appears on the official Joomla sites, such as Help.Joomla.org, are "official" documents and the content (and the quality) is controlled by Core Team leaders.
This forum allows anyone to post whatever they want (within the rules).
This includes CMM lists and SEO guides, etc.
Thus some very useful information is only available because of the more lax publishing rules here in the forum.
While different tools may be easier and more appropriate to use for specific information,
the political structure and realities of an open source project may affect where the information is actually published.
Regardless, as long as it is easy to find, Joomla users benefit wherever the information is located.

Just my take on it for what's it's worth. Maybe you should have posted your comments on the front page of Joomla.org? Would your comments/questions be posted? Would they be appropriate for front page advertisement of a product?
The point being, forums are not an advertisement medium for the most part. In fact, it's against the forum rules to broadcast branding here. The forums are provided for the supporting of a product. Content in the forums are answers and feedback to questions about the product.
"Maybe overlooked but you have to ask yourself what's so wrong with Joomla that it's developers pass it over for forums software to manage their news, announcements and content? Food for thought..."I use several CMS type softwares. Joomla doesn't pass over for forums to manage anything. The content provided to the
http://joomla.org is managed with joomla. Announcements for upgrades, bugfixes, etc... are normally made in both the forum
and the primary joomla site.

Had a good LOL with that one.
Graham stating the obvious . . .
One hundred thousand posts of useless drivel.
Forums are really good as forums.
CMS's are really good as CMSs.
The right tool is always appropriate.
Emmmmmm . . . good food for thought.
Thinking first - what a concept.

I don't get it, this is a forum man, not a presentation website, some setups are better used for forums, some setups are better used for presentation type websites. A forum is always better geared for developer types rather then regular surfers just because it is a list view and ordered in the forum type of way.
Ask yourself a question, does anyone ever sell a product they have on a forum based website anywhere? No, they use a presentation based site, like a typical joomla 10 page focussed on one product site, but only after they learn how to use joomla on the joomla forums, you know the kind of site that has 100,000 pages but is not selling anything! Each type of website has its own uses for different types of visitors.
Its like I can use an 18 wheeler to get my aunt to the store because I work for the grocery and it can carry more food, but she would prefer me take her in a sedan or a limo, because she would enjoy that ride more and is more comfortable with the simplicity and smoother ride. See the 18 wheeler better serves me in my tasks, but the sedan better serves her for her tasks. But both are valid vechicles for different purposes, although if I wanted I could use either to carry the food home for her.
I could come up with 1000 different such metaphors.

Sorry that metaphor made me laugh.
Unless of course its not a metaphor and you actually do drive your aunt to the grocery in an 18 wheeler
Sorry couldnt resist,
and imagine trying to explain this to a police officer who catches you stopped in front of th grocers
