Joomla Server - Reason For Outage (RFO)

Date: Monday, November 7th 2005 at 1520 GMT / UTC

The server hosting the official Joomla website and forum experienced a small outage a few minutes ago. This outage was caused by what appears to be a power failure to part of the rack where the server is housed. Our monitoring systems immediately alerted us of this problem. On-site technicians are investigating this issue in more detail to see why UPS devices did not trip. Everything appears to be functioning normally again at this time.

Thank you for your understanding :)

Some further information regarding this issue -

It appears that some contractors who were at the data center performing electrical work triggered the breaker on the UPS units. The data center are having serious words with the contractor regarding this issue to ensure such an incident doesn't occur again.

Again, my apologies for the short outage that was experienced due to this oversight on the part of the contractor.

Thank you very much for the info. The outage did not affect me this time but it is very thoughtful, honest, and repectable for you to share this information with us.

I thought I would add my endorsement of Rey's comments.
Disastersearch.org is also on a Rochen dedicated server.  Like Joomla! we were affected by the actions of the idiot contractor at the datacenter (the Joomla! and Disastersearch servers are within spitting distance of each other).  It's just so good to know that even when we are sleeping the guys at Rochen are keeping a close eye on things and taking action immediately a problem arises.
I don't know of any other hosting company where the CEO would take the time to post on a customer's forum to let the community know what happened.  Yet another example of the great service from Rochen. Thanks Chris.

You mean, it wasn't the janitor unplugging the rack so he could vacuum the floor? hehe

Thanks Chris for the report and the support.

Yea, just wait til you drive up to your data center and find a phone company truck and a 20' x 20' trench on the street corner with a rather large bundle of multicolor wires sticking out of it. I shudder every time I remember that scene.

And oh yea, a sewer is NOT a good place for the phone company to run a trunk. And yes, the carwash down the street can shut down your wan when they wash out the drains everyday at 5:00pm. That one took 2 weeks to figure out.

Ever see what happens when lightening strikes a telephone company central office? Try to explain to your CEO why sniffing around on Nx56 cards looking for burned spots will help bring the network back up. And oh yea, try to order a new Nx56 card at 3:00am and have it delivered before the bank opens at 9:00am. Then try and convince the phone company that lightening should have never reached your D4 channel bank in the first place.

I better stop before I jinx things.  >:(
