Suggestion for the Joomla!Day Charter

Viewing the lack of information on some Joomla!Days and taking in mind that attendance would be impossible for some persons it would be nice to add some kind of "knowledge sharing", "share your sessions and experiences with the whole community", "document your Joomla!Day" or something like that to the charter.

This way, Joomla!Days would be a resource for all, not only those participating or those with the possibility to travel to a city, while keeping their own nature: meet and learn together.

Just an example: James session about GPL. If we could take a look at the session (video, transcript, excerpt...) we all would know the opinion of an US attorney from the US laws perspective about some points being discussed these day. But this is applicable to the whole event: how to obtain a venue, costs involved, financial solutions...

It would be absolutely *awesome* to have video of the events! Imagine multiplying the excitement that 100 people experienced by all of the community members who could also participate by at least having access to the video. It would be great for our community. I hope Rafa's idea becomes a reality. That would be very, very cool!

With respect,
Amy :)

Actually the charter mentions reporting/news and the opened channels: news, this forum and joomladays.org. Video and "people taking notes" are named too, as examples.

But Joomla!Day is a given status and some kind of "do ut des" is, in my opinion, needed.

Rafa - where *is* the charter? I've looked for it, but can't seem to locate it.

Thanks!
Amy :)

@Amy
The Charter is avaiable to people who ish to organise Joomla!Day events

@ibnhafsun
I take your point about the information from the event being available after the event to those who were unable to attend. The event team are currantly working on some ways for this to be facilitated easier

brian, then, if the charter is more than an alfa, are you going to publish it?

I understand that if it is WIP and it needs some polish it would be better to wait and work as you are doing now. But we have had several Joomla!Days and, IMO, it´s not only an issue beetwen Joomla! and the organisers: if we, the simple users like me, don´t have a clue about what a Joomla!Day is, conditions, requirements, goals, etc, etc, etc, it would be easier for Joomla!Days to be "something different". And hard for us to understand how we can help.

An example: how can I report a Joomla!Day charter infringement (ie. someone getting paid for his session) if I don´t have access to it, if I have not any chance to know that no one should be paid for a session?  (its just an example, I am sure you will find more).

This is completely off topic and has no relevance to the subject of this thread. If you understood the joomla structure you will note that this is a team and not a working group.

Please try to refrain from turning the forum into your personal chatroom. If you want to ask questions of an individual nature that are not related to the subject of the post please use the personal message system that this forum provides.

@ibnhafsun
I'm sure that you know be my now. I've been pushing for this Charter to be made publicaly available for a long time

Brian -

The common understanding is that the working group members wear badges.  :P

That means people have a certain credibility and authority for answering questions. You answered a question intended for a member of the Events group - which I had earlier understood to be Alex. I was hoping to understand the "power" behind your response, if you were speaking as a community member and providing your own perspective - or - if you were carrying the full weight of a working group member.

Up until this very moment, Brian, I have understood the badge represented an authority level - and I am confused to hear differently. This is the *first* and *only* situation I know of where someone is in a role without an announcement or listing or badge.  I think it makes sense to communicate ones authority with a badge so that everyone understands.

I already have an email into Alex after getting Rafa's response. I am guessing it is the Charter is not "top secret" and can be shared. But, if Alex chooses not to share it with me, that's his choice.

A quote from akede´s post

Just a brief comment.

The Charter is public available I just don't have a place to put it well yet. If you send me a PM with your mail or a mail, I will send you a copy of it.

Excuse me, but when I told Amy that, I was missunderstanding the publicity of the charter as "public available", not as public by request of those interested.

A real world example or why it should be public:

Some days ago, a well known member of the community posted a message about running a Joomla!Day in Spain. I pmed him asap just to let him know that there are some "rules", including the prior refusal of the TPs, and forwarded him the charter.

The fact is that TPs may or may not be active members of the language forums. This way, the community member could go further, find another members willing to run a Joomla!Day and compromising some personal (and material) resources to celebrate a Joomla!Day that the TP would run at his will. This has no sense for me and I tried to advert the community member: get in touch with akede, read the charter, ask the TPs... and then, take a decission.

I can remember your posts asking for the charter, as you said, brian. So count me in and forward the case to the team (akede, afaik, knows about this).

Moderator note; can we please remain on topic, which is a suggestion to the Charter, not WG and Team badges  ;) If this needs to be discussed, please open a new thread.

A short note too all.

We are currently preparing a new events section on the j.org sites. More news when I'm back from the events. Currently it is really bussy. So work in progress :)

Alex

PS: Thanks Robin you are absolutely right we should focus more
