Ok, so I've read places that the search function for these forums aren't that great. This seems like a pretty simple feature though. Or am I doing something wrong here?

Now I feel better about asking dumb questions in the forum if I can't find them with search.  :-[

Why would you need to search with quotes?

The advanced search allows for match all words so that pretty much does what quotes would serve, especially because you can sort results by different criteria.

I think the toughest part about the search function here, is you have to really know what you are searching for specifically.  Knowing that can be a difficult task.

You can always do a google search by search for a phrase then right after that put site:forum.joomla.org .  That can sometimes yield more fruitful results.

Yes, I could use Google (and I just did, guess there is nothing on the topic). :) Just seems like this is kind of a common feature not to have (searching with quotes).

Trying to find information on doing the exact same thing as Dreamweaver's Library Items does. I found one post but the instructions are confusing for me. I guess I'll try it again.

Thanks for the reply! I think it's so cool how some of you forum people do so much for places like this! Thanks! :)

Ok, good point  ;)
So, please, let's try to search this forum for something, related to the 1.5 version of Joomla! I don't think anybody would ask me, why I need to find information about this particular version  :)

Just now I tried, without success, to search any information about Gallery component for Joomla! 1.5. Naturally, I tried:
gallery "1.5"
- because I don't need to search for digits 1 and 5. Even
"1.5"
returns nothing :-(

So, who will give me the good way to search for something, related to Joomla! 1.5, in this forum?

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,304.0.html is the development forum for 1.5
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,407.0.html is the feedback forum for 1.5

The main reason why you may have a hard time finding information on Gallery components for 1.5 is that it only recent came out in BETA2 so developers are only starting to create or adapt existing components.

You can always check the JED for Gallery components and you will see on each one whether it is compatible with 1.5 because it will have a tag on the right hand side of the listing. The JED Gallery section is located here: http://extensions.joomla.org/index.php? ... &Itemid=35

Remember 1.5 is in BETA status.  It should not be used for a live production site.

Hi, MMMedia! Thank you for the tip.
I know about existence of special Joomla! 1.5  forums, but information, that I need, is not there. I'm one of those developers, creating extensions for Joomla! 1.5, and topic with my new extension was moved from "Joomla! 1.5 Dev" to "3rd Party Extensions / Open Source Products for Joomla!" forum...  :(

So, may we talk about some improvements of the search engine?
Please note, that this problem will be only more vital, when Joomla! 1.5 come out of Beta, so we all have to prepare beforehand?!

By the way, the same problem is in http://extensions.joomla.org/ - it is VERY inconvenient to search something for Joomla! 1.5. As you may see, there is even no "Joomla! 1.5" logo in descriptions of extensions in "Browse view" of the JED  :(

I do know that different ways of reorganizing the forums are being discussed, and that different ways of searching are being looked at for both the forums and the JED in preparation for 1.5.

Do you have any specific ideas or suggestions?

I know I would love to see a 1.5 icon in the browse view too.  That would be a big help.

Yes, I may give some suggestions.
1. For search engine of this forum:
1.1 I think it will be easy to make the engine don't count "." (dot) as word separator, IF there are digits before AND after the dot. So we may search for 1.5 even without quotes.
1.2 And of cause, phrase search (using quotes) may help greatly improve quality of search results.

2. For Joomla! Extensions Directory:
2.1 Add another Joomla! compatibility level (to the two existing), so we will have three levels of compatibility:
a. - v.1.0 compatible
b. - v.1.5 in legacy mode compatible
c. - v.1.5 fully compatible (native extension)
I think, this is VERY important to distinguish between b. and c.
So, current extension database, in fact, has a. and b. "levels of compatibility". After conversion to the new JED DB format, authors of fully J! 1.5 compatible extensions will have to change descriptions of their extensions.

2.2 Create global filter, that should work for the whole JED site (browsing categories, "new extensions" etc.). (it may be stored in user's session...)
This filter should have, at least, that "levels of compatibility" parameter (1.0 / 1.5 any (b. or c.) 1.5 full).
So, user may browse, search, etc. the whole JED with filtered content.

I think, my suggestions are helpful and easily implemented (except, maybe, for 1.2)
