Extensions being duplicated..quick question.

Is there any precedence in extensions being dupped? I know this is a little sticky regarding gnu/gpl.
We just found an extension that is published in the JED that is one of our extensions listed by someone else
Now I understand that a cube must have 6 sides and there are really only certain ways to accomplish a particular goal...but in this case it is a line-for-line copy of an extension from our site. It's an extension that was written by a 3rd party for our component back in March 2006. It was released under GNU/GPL and I am aware of the ramifications of that. It was available in our forums for some time and was taken off to be revised slightly and re-released.
I did not write the code and I am making NO claims that I did....I'm just saying it's getting a little bit silly!
I am willing to accept a "that's the way it goes" answer, but I just figure some attention could be drawn to this.
Thanks so much for your time on this guys!
