My resignation letter from JED

http://www.jomres.net/index.php?option= ... Itemid=186It is with great regret that I announce my resignation from the Joomla Extensions Directory team, and the Joomla project.
Whilst I will always hold a fond place in my heart for the Joomla project and the many wonderful people in it, I find that I can no longer ally myself with the project as a whole and the direction it is currently taking.
I also find myself at odds with a core team that is under the impression that commercial developers do nothing for the Joomla Community. This is at odds with my own experience of commercial developers who put themselves out time and time again for Joomla users and I find myself so deeply offended that even if it were not for other factors I would still resign over this issue.
As such, it would be hypocritical for me to remain on one of Joomla's teams. This is despite the wonderful time I have had working with Ot2sen, Lorenzo and Lee, who are all great people, full of integrity, and who I have been proud to call colleagues.
Therefore, I wish you all the best for the future, and I look forward to meeting you all in other, different circumstances.

I admit I never crossed paths with you, but I was involved in the the original setup of JED so to see where you and the others have taken it is quite astounding.
Its a shame that the current circumstances have been the catalyst for your moving on, but I do understand and do admire the the fact that you to are standing for what you believe in, even if it is at odds to my own belief's.
Best of luck
Shayne

Good luck to you, Vince. Thanks for all your dedicated work on the Extensions Directory, keeping good humor and being around. Your presence will be missed by the team. All the best to you.

Hi Vince,
Like Shayne already stated, I've not crossed paths with you either, but a big thanks for all the work you have done on the JED! Good luck with your future ventures.

Does this mean you'll stop development of your extensions for Joomla?

A decision on that is pending.

Vince - it is with great regret that I am making new friends with great, dedicated people like you who realize the truth of what makes the world go round. It is not just goodwill and love. It is the ability for the wonderful people who have come here and asked for some compensation to put food on the table in return for some of the best commercial extensions the open source community has ever seen.
The beauty of Joomla was that it was FREEDOM in practice - it allowed the developers the ability to provide licenses to a great free, open source base product in any manner they desired. The community could choose whether to accept the licenses or reject them and create substitute products with a different model. The bottom line -- it was freedom of choice for everyone.
When people like you who have donated significant time to run one of the best organized downloads directories ever seen begin to resign, it should make people start thinking about what could turn away such honorable people. It is with great hope that your resignation might only be a temporary display of honor and standing up for what you believe is right - and that Joomla will return to what it used to be -- where freedom reigned supreme and we were not shackled by forced idealism.
I remain optimistic and in your debt for your significant contributions here. A hearty thank you.

Not nice to hear vince! Good luck and thanks for everything you did for joomla!
I am sure more will leave, and even if i get banned now: "I hope it will happen!" and yes i am really p... o.. because, of this "great" pgl *%&$ we will have to close our site because there are no alternatives to the software we use but developers stopped developing and we can not even get a new serial number after we changed domain-name now. Joomla is only as strong as the components! What you guys do now, is "fighting" against the endusers!

Why would you get banned for not using Joomla?

I'm sorry to hear that. Yes this issue is very heated and we too are affected by that. There are threads going right now that tell both sides of this story.
Let's see if there is something that can be done to help. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to see if I can help you find a solution. I know I've lost sleep over this.
We're obviously OT on this, so let's try this thread:

I agree with dscweb, this is OT and we haven't got any report that a commercial dev has closed their business because of GPL controversy. You can find other threads to discuss the GPL issue. Lets show Vince respect for his great work and dedication he has showed the community and keep this thread on topic. Thanks.
