For the new Tax Justice Network-USA website (http://taxjustice-usa.org) I want to add a subscription form so that people can choose to be

1. informed automatically when a new item is posted

2. get other information such as news articles that we would like to distribute even if we don't put them on the site.

Can anyone recommend how to do this with Joomla? Is there an existing form in the joomla program? Is there a free extension that will do this?

It's all too confusing to me. Is there someplace that compares the various 20 programs? Can someone tell me which one I should choose?

Not that I've heard of.
What I normally do is look at the demos (when I'm in a hurry.) If I have more time, I install each extension I want to test on a clean copy of Joomla! on my local testing server (XAMPP).
