Is this forum being announced in the country specific forums ? There must be beginners there surely.
There arent enough newbies as yet. The leaders and seniors are here, and i find myself bumping into them, criss crossing each others path..lol..nice, but am looking forward to do somethng with some other newbies and get something going.

As far as I know, there is no formal announcement in those forums, nor is one probably necessary at this time.  Other than it being blogged by Brad, I think the forum itself is the advertisement of the group's existence and work to press forward and start some constructive projects.

the idiom "101" likely has no meaning at all in other languages and cultures but just that very number :) Like I could throw "08/15" and "4711" in here and nobody with a German background would know what they mean.

So many people may have no idea what Coding 101 is all about, struggling with the same things and concepts that are supposed to be solved and managed in this forum.
That doesn't mean them could or would instantly participate, i.e. due to limited skills in *writing* english, but lots are able to *read* and understand.
I second jalil. Don't "ignore" the large intl. users and tell them about this area soon.
The worst that could happen is that more people join the group :)

the name very unfortunately is historical and it all happened too quickly for me to catch the fox by its tail.
which is why i made a first post of 101===Beginners :) Welcome and Thank You, *hoping* it would send the right signal out to the international community. especially joomla community.

the nice people who gave us this place unfortunately did not realise that 101 isn't an internationally recognised term for beginners.  it is very country specific. kindergarten i think is more international than 101.

i am trying my best to internationalise this effort. i want the worst to happen, i want to suddenly find myself in the middle of international newbie coders, all 6.5 billion of them.  :D

p/s as for english, if they do PHP, thats even worse than english, so i think we need not worry about that.

Well, calling it kindergarden coding might not go over so well . :)

Right in the forum description, under the title of the forum, it says this "Discussion and education of 'novice' developers who are interested in coding with specific focus on programming for the Joomla! CMS "  Do people have a problem understanding the word novice? I'm not sure what else really needs to be said that would describe it.  They really don't have to know what 101 means if they read the description, yes?

I know anytime I go to a forum I rely more on the descriptions than the titles so I know a bit more about the intention of the fourm.

of course.  :) i was not suggesting that, merely giving an example of a word comfortable to international audience.

Besides the 101 factor, the English used in that description is difficult Engish. I know you consider it easy, because it is the language you have been using all your life. For a non native English speaker, it is not immediately and easily identifiable.

You are quite right in that they really do not have to know what 101 means if they read the description, but human beings cannot live with not knowing. The 101 is begging to be asked of its presence and meaning.

Here would be a typical example script ...

Newbie : Hello, i want to start learning programming components in joomla!...where can i go ?
Promoter : You can go to Joomla! Coding 101.
Newbie : Thank you, but what is 101 please ?
Promoter : 101 means starting or basic level, hence Joomla! Coding 101 means coding for starters.
Newbie : Thank You, nice, is there anything i should read up on to get to know more about 101 ?
Promoter : Well, yes and no...if you want to know the origins of 101 you can Google it, but if you want to learn Joomla! Basics, the forum is there, you go straight in.
Newbie : Ah, i see, so the 101 is the place to start ya ?
Promoter : Ya, ...i mean yes. It's the place to start.
Newbie : Ah, si, gracias.

Here would be an alternative example script ...

Newbie : Hello, i want to start learning programming components in joomla!...where can i go ?
Promoter : You can go to Joomla! Coding for Beginners.
Newbie : Ah, si, gracias.

Personally, i don't mind whatever name given to it. But then that is thinking of myself only.
If i consider international participation, it may require some deeper thinking and adjustments.
I'm not too concerned as nature has it that if its not done here, it will be done elsewhere. Just want to make more friends from all over the planet.

I'm glad for your consideration of the international community.  I know english is not an easy language, by far.  I don't think it's simple for anyone, even people who use it as their native language.

We'll have to make you the international liason to the Joomla Coding community. :)
