Newbie Do Where Are You.

This place is getting a little crowded and i'm mixing up newbies and oldies and posting at wrong places at times. Very embarassing.
So maybe a list of newbies would be helpful, so we could start talking to each other.
Also, it is difficult as the word newbie was used in a very loose sense. Is one not familiar with HTML considered a newbie or one not familiar with PHP ? Or is it one not famliair with Joomla structure ? Or none of the above....
In trying to do Joomla Components/Modules/Plugins/Mambots, i would assume that our friends have some famliarity with HTML/CSS/PHP/SQL already in place. Hence a newbie is one who has these basics, not necesarily strong in them, but wish to write an extension.
This makes me the first Newbie...anyone else ?

I don't think we can yet categorize what a 'joombie' constitutes, as we have many different skill sets and ideas for how things might proceed. That's why the discussions are varied at this time. We'll hone in on a few different ideas, and I'm sure see if there are ways to best approach them that will work for the majority who want to get involved.
Considering we are already thinking about ways to break out the forum structure into some new subforums, I think ideas will start to solidify as we move forward. Too early yet to try and start defining the community and attempting to press on without some sort of idea as to the what, how and when of what we're going to do.

I know HTML better than I know the back of my hand, I've taught some classes and mentored dozens one on one in its use. I've actively worked with PHP for the past five years or so. And I've taken apart, re arraigned, and otherwise modified several Joomla! extensions to my liking. Yet when it comes to developing a Joomla! extension from the ground up, especially for 1.5, I certainly consider myself someone who could benefit greatly from the stated goals of this forum.

Hi, I`m what I call a jack of many things, expert in very few.... I`ve learned HTML by the seat of my pants, I had a product delivered (comm$ware) that really did not deliver on promises that required a me to figure out how to install TomCat, PHP, Java, MS-SQL, and also interface it with the Shipping system all without instructions. So thats how I got into this area of development and found a renewed sense of being so I`m fulfilling my days building Websites.
I`m actually a developer creating custom shipping solutions using VB and whatever else the customer throws at me. I`ve been moving into Website Dev for local groups and Joomla! fits the bill the best. So hear I am wanting to get more out of Joomla! and really get things into an CSS, accessible sites. Some of the members have visual impairments and are considered Extreme low vision. So this is why I want to know about things "under the hood"

Thanks for posting gentlemen.
Yes, there definitely is a need out there to help the start-up Joomla! developers who really want to get the most out of Joomla!, and are willing to put some time in to customize and extend an all ready very well coded system.
By the end of this week, we should be farther along on this as far as the forum itself goes. And I think as things progress, you'll definitley find what you're looking for here.
