not sure where to post this but are you aware that the search result page links for pages 2- upwards for this forum are broke

Would you care to describe the problem you're having or shall we guess? 

I didn't see anything wrong with the search that I just did. I got pages 1 - 34. Pages 1, 2, 10, 25, 34 all seemed to work correctly for me.

hey thanks for the sarcasm. As I may not have explained adequately, if a search results in multiple pages of results, the links to page 2 etc result in error 404 pages.

I can replicate the problem consistently by dioing a search from the forum home page http://forum.joomla.org/index.php - try a search on rc2, then click page 2 of the results.

Sarcasm wasn't intended. Just my strange sense of humor. You did see the smiley didn't you.

I did a search for RC2 and didn't have any issues accessing any of the pages - 1, 2, 4, 9, 17, 24, 32, etc.

I wonder if you "caught it" while it was indexing? I have found a Google Search specific to the joomla.org domain, tends to work best.

mmm that's very strange it consitently fails for me - you did try the search from the forums index page didn't you?

BTW I use IE7 - maybe it's a browser issue, I'll try another and post back.

I've used FF 2.0.0.6 and IE 7.x

I *hate* it when that happens to me. 

I was using FireFox, but I tried IE7 after reading your post with no problem, either. These are the exact steps I took:

• Started IE 7;
• started my search at http://forum.joomla.org/index.php;
• searched for rc2;
• Clicked 2 in the pages;
• Clicked Srecan drugi rodjendan draga Joomla! - kodno ime Endeleo
• Went right to the page where BSD posted.

If you can get it to happen, again, do a screen shot and attach it.

Right after extensive testing here are my findings:

IE7 on XPsp2 - ok
Firefox v2 - ok
Opera 9 - ok
Safari 3 - ok
IE7 on Vista - problem occurs every time

Reproduce as folows:

Started IE 7 on Vista;
started my search at http://forum.joomla.org/index.php;
searched for rc2;
Clicked 2 in the pages;
ended up with:

  Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
 
  Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

Interesting. I nearly threw my daughter's laptop out the window yesterday. She's running Vista Home and we CANNOT install a printer even though she is the Administrator. The Vista hardening made things too hard! 

Madi is away at college, but I can send her a note and ask her to try and see if the error can be reproduced. I know today she's got a full slate but tomorrow I bet she'd give it a try for us.

Can you post a screen print of what happens?

One more thing, if you don't mind, that image is so small, I can't read the words. Can you copy and paste the message and the EXACT URL from the page. I'd like to see if the URL matches mine.

That is very bizarre.

I included an attachment that shows the first link on the second page of the search.

When I right click the link identified in the attachment, and copy the URL, I get this: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,207979.0.html. I also have the same URL after clicking the link and navigating to the page.

When you right click the link PRIOR to click it, what is the URL? The URL you provided is very odd. It would be good to figure out when that params option started to show up.

It is not looking like a SMF problem, but rather a Vista problem, IMO. 

Forum administrators should probably look into it as Vista is becoming more widespread.

After looking at the URL given on the forum search page (which is correct), and the one the browser returns (which is incorrect), it's clear to me that this is not an SMF problem, but rather a Vista issue.

These forum admins are good, but even they can't fix the problems with Vista. 

If it was my forum I would investigate, understand the issue, and maybe ask MS to release an update for Vista. I would want my forum to continue working as more of my users migrated to Vista. But then that's just me.

We are a community based on volunteer labor and I think you might have discovered a way to contribute. Perhaps you wouldn't mind contacting Microsoft for us? 

Truthfully, you are the only one who can do this since, to my knowledge, you are the only one to have reported the problem, and are therefore the only one who can demonstrate what is happening and follow up with questions they might have. (Hardware? Networking card? Other installed software? Who knows what they might ask!)

Then, when you are able to get Microsoft to provide a Vista release that addresses your URL corruption problem, please post the link here for others.

Actually, I offered to ask her before I did a bit more research, posting images, and asking you a very specific question, highlighted above, that you have simply ignored.  Although it's certainly easier for you if we call in my daughter's assistance, she is pretty busy, and this, of course, is not her problem. Figuring out Freshman Chemistry is top of her list! 

When you didn't bother answering my question, I figured the search wasn't that big of a deal for you, especially since there are other ways you can get this information using Google (shared in this thread) and no one else has reported this problem. I was hopeful that you concluded, as I did, that this is likely not an SMF problem and, having been helped, you could thank people for their time and willingness to look into it and take your needs seriously, but move on to more important things in your life.

Where my thinking failed me was considering there are not more important things in your life. This is it.

OK! Since this is of critical importance to you, and if it's not too much bother, would you mind terribly responding to my question? I sincerely hope it's not too much to ask for you to help further trouble shoot your problem. I realize you prefer that the forum administrators, Microsoft, moderators, myself, and now my very own teenage daughter, diagnose and fix this problem for you, but I am old and attended the old school where I was taught to teach people to fish.

The answer is rightclicking reveals the same url but both are truncated, see below.

I figured that as you volunteered your daughter to check in Vista I guessed it wouldn't be too much of a problem for you to simply confirm it was a Vista issue before we went much further.
I don't necessarily share your view that it is not an SMF problem as it is now also an intermittent problem on IE7 on XP sp2 (different pc) - although I am sure it worked before.

As I merely highlighted a problem that I thought the forum administrators might be interested in and I provided further info when asked, I thought I was being helpful. Clearly you dont think so.

And clearly from your response it is too much trouble for you. so forget it.

Please attach the page source with those URLs in it.
