Joomla Forum Search...what's the deal?

Ok I'm familiar with using forums to find information...but this Joomla Forum is quite frustrating...

1. Is there any way to search for a phrase instead of just individual words?
I tried advanced serach and put the phrase in quotes and the results still give individual words found?

For example say I just want to find a SEF Module...searching for "SEF module" returns everytime the word "module" was used. Which is barely better than just "browsing" the titles for what one needs.

Does anyone else find this search somewhat "worthless"?  :'(

2. Is there anyway to turn off the "yellow" highlighting of "found" words? (quite distracting when trying to read through)

Unless there is something I'm doing wrong...any suggestions are welcome. Or maybe this post will get enough "play" the powers that be will decide to correct the search so that we can actually find what we are looking for in a much more specific manner...like all the other search engines available today.

Thanks,
WebGuy

I don't find it frustrating, but others have.

Try this Google utility that our friendly forum administrators put together for us - http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=00762 ... igrppcfurc.

Hope that helps!

I'm wondering... does anyone have or know how to make an extension for Firefox that places the link to this search form in the "Search Engines drop down". It looks like this:
Image

Basically it gives you a text area to do a search on particular sites.

Anyone know of anything like this in existence for Firefox?

I checked in the Firefox search engines and I see nothing there after doing a search.

They have instructions on how to do it here:
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Cr ... or_Firefox

But this all looks like greek to me. Anyone up to work on it?

Thanks!

Thanks Brad. This is really helpful.

Just out of curiosity, what search term(s) did you use?

When I searched I used "search engine box joomla firefox" but it didn't bring up anything relevant. I searched for 'joomla' in the FF browser extensions and if brought up no result. This is the link I used:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:4

Thanks!

Webgyrl -

Is that necessary? You have a number of options available now. Perhaps that is enough?

Is what necessary? My question to Brad? If that is what you are referring to, it's always nice to know what someone searched for if you had an unsuccessful search for something.
