[Suggestion to JED] - New sub-category: Fireboard specific extensions

Post by horus_68 » Fri Oct 26, 2007 9:19 pm

For Fireboard specific extensions, would be nice to create a sub category under

Extension Specific Plugin
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

(I know that they are not all plugins but, as I said some time before, the category name should be "Extension Specific extensions" so it would be more useful to users)

Here they are:

FireBoard Latest Posts Module
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Fireboard Latest module
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Fireboard Karma MenuItem
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

FireBoard SearchBot 1.2.1
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Fireboard Sync
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Moolet Fireboard Who's Online & Live Stats
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Fire Comments
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

And you can find a lot more as plugins to work with editors and SEF utilities.
And that is way we need another way to organize things at JED, more in a Web 2.0 style, maybe with a tag system so one extension could be listed under different categories.

Hi horus_68,

Thanks for your valuable help in collecting the Fireboard related extension  :)
Result can be seen here in new Fireboard Forum Plugins category:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Like you say there are a series of other extensions also relating to fireboard, but they mainly require another extension than fireboard to be working properly. These are plugins/extensions to use with CB, WYSIWYG editors and SEF extensions. Just like the karma extension you listed above.
We do have the option to list extensions in related categories, but I´m not sure that it would be really helpful to the users that we list the CB/Fireboard Karma extension under Fireboard Forum Plugins, when it still depends on another extension than Fireboard.

Thanks again for your help. Really appreciated  :)

Super fast work!

I would think that we still need a related feature as in:
"I wish that feature for extension XYZ ... Oh!... wait... for that I will need to install also the KJL component so I could use the PTR module and connect them!".
More and more extensions are connected and related, with modules that bring functions together.

So a tag system would be nice, as it would be a better way of navigate through JED than to go back to search again.
And because a tag system its a search system also it would be more easier to find a related extension.

You should report this at the specific extension page (look for a link "Report this listing")
And maybe contact the author plugin at their site!

Totally agree!

I'd love to see a list of items that WILL work with fireboard, even if you need another component - at the moment for me it seems like trial and error.
But a list such as the one suggested above would let me really think about the extra functionality I could get into my site, without having to pour through every extension (which I have done). Some extensions just dont carry enough of a description for me to warrant adding then - just incase they work with my set up. Having a list of items connected to fireboard would make it much quicker and easier for me to know what can be done and what cant.

Great idea!
