Hi everyone,

It is my hope to have a Joomla! day event in the GVA (greater Vancouver area) sometime at the end of February 2008.

At this point, nothing is set in stone.  I'm requesting some volunteer help from other locals to see what kind of plans we can come up with.

Any takers?

Rastin, that's great news.  I have some requests out for event locations.  Hopefully more info to follow very soon.

Any chance you could encourage your invitees to post here if they're interested in helping out?  As I'm not located in the city, any help in ideas for locations (or anything else) would be greatly appreciated.

You're most welcome. I'd suggest we use a combination of This thread, http://www.Tazzu.com, and facebook to organize the event. I'd think a lot of people will show up for this one. It would be nice to showcase some projects too.

All good ideas.  I'm going to try and get a Joomla Day! site up this week so we can have a central location for attendance records, discussion ideas, projects, etc.  Oh, and a location!  Anyone have any good ideas for a venue that can host us for the day?

Wendy, I met several Canadians at Joomla Day USA West held at Google Plex in California several months ago.  All were keen to participate in Joomal Day Vancouver.  The Montreal contingent had also registered the domain joomla.ca to rally the joomla troops across Canada.  PM?

That's great news Bruno!  Do you have any means of contacting some of these folks?  If we can direct people to this thread for now, it will give us a better idea of interest and numbers. 

I sent you an email the other day.  Rastin and I will be talking about some details tomorrow and then hopefully we get the ball rolling full speed to March 15

Just an update on the date.  We have moved it up to June 7, 2008.  Still in the Alice McKay room at the VPL. 

Guess what everyone?  The date for J!day Vancouver has changed... again. 

This time though, it's for real

June 14, 2008.

We do need volunteers to help with organizing.  If you are able to help please send me a pm and we will get in touch.

I'm going to be in Vancouver, but not until August or September (Going on Vacation to Vancouver and Seatle with a few friends).  I may see if we can change this date to coinceed with J!Day...

It will be a great trip!  Both are beautiful cities and similar in many respects.

I just talked to my friend, and we are in.  Going to fly into Seattle on Tues (6-10), go up to Vancouver on Fri(6-13), and go home on Mon (6-16), so looks like I'll be there!

I think Brad has already spoken to you briefly. Now that the Vancouver event is on June 14th we can throw our full support behind it and will do whatever we can to help. I think Brad, myself and some others from Rochen will also be able to attend.

...my name is jeddy. i'd like to be a part of Joomla! Day in Vancouver.  i was introduced to joomla last july...and i've been hooked ever since.  i would like to extend my help with this event.  wendy, i will send you a pm accordingly.

...i've been waiting for a joomla event to come to vancouver ever since i was exposed to it! i actually booked a flight to attend the joomla new york conference last october...but i didn't end up making up.

I am pleased to say that Team Rochen is all booked up to be in Vancouver. Going to be three of us coming along.

Wendy, I think Brad is going to contact you sometime soon (if he has not already) to see what support we can offer for the event in terms of sponsorship etc.

Also, we are most likely going to be throwing a customer (plus special guests) dinner and party the evening of June 14th.
