I am always happy to hear that more and more sites are using Joomla, but having this "Official News" http://www.joomla.org/content/view/4149/1/ on the main website seemd quite odd.

Both websites are commercial, one selling apartments, so, I dont see much special about them, besides being nice, and made with Joomla.

I live right next to  Panama, I am in Costa Rica and I know there are a few but there are Joomla websites areound the country, so there is nothing special about those two new websites in Panamam they should be advertised here in the "Site Showcase" not Joomlas frontpage.

What do you guys think? What happened here?

The deployment of Joomla! sites in third world countries is something we like to encourage, in any shape or form.

We have sites that sell pets, sites that provide services, sites that promote ideas, sites that promote Joomla! and sites that promote fresh air.

Just because these sites are selling real estate doesn't mean they too shouldn't be showcased.

These people took the time to submit their sites ... in a fit and proper manner.

The two sites are indeed commercial and agressive in marketing which is great news, however, if the announcement was of a community interest and not commercial interest, I built two Joomla sites in Panama, just under 2 years ago and the other 1.5 years ago that are definitely both non-profit, non-commercial websites and should have, imho, been included. 

The first has been altered by a new administrator and unfortunately, no effort made beyond the build, therefore a bit static, still:

http://www.elcascoantiguo.com  which is the official neighborhood site for Panama City's 'old quarters' as mentioned in the LosCuatroTulipanes description and is owned by the oldest arts and culture Foundation in the neighborhood.  Casco Antiquo (aka Casco Viejo) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

http://www.aapanama.org is the official site for Alcoholics Anonymous in the Republic of Panama.  Obviously a non-profit.

The term "third world countries" is a derogotary and outdated term that relates to an ideology that industrialisation is the ideal.

It also dates back to the times of the Cold War and as such is not really an appropriate term to describe a nation.

How about the newer more accepted term of "underdeveloped nations"?  Is that better?  It means the exact same thing, but according to wikipedia it is one of the more PC ways to convey a large section of the earth, that was formerly called "third world".

Thanks so much for sharing those very positive, exceptional websites built using Joomla!. I book marked them, myself, and especially love the El Casco Antiguo site. Technically, we are not supposed to link to our own sites, except in our signature, because it is considered a form of self-promotion. That is true regardless of whether the site is commercial, personal or for a good cause, we are all treated the same according to the rules.

You might consider submitting a news story so that the broader community can see these sites. Sharing how Joomla! is useful to the world is encouraging and welcome news!

A news story was submitting for the first two sites http://www.joomla.org/content/view/4149/1/  which is really great.  The second set of two should be submitted also.

No worries about whether the sites are commercial sites or not when submitting news.

Cool - site news are some of my favorite news, most especially some of the humanitarian stuff. Really enjoy those stories.

Personaly I think "developing" is better and less derogatory

None of it as I posted was derogatory.  You have to take into account intent, and you seem to be reading intent into words where none was meant. 

You asked the question if under developed was better and I simply replied that I thought developing was better.

Please, clearly, no one intended to be offensive. I happen to know that Pete cares very much for how Joomla! can be, is, and will be useful to people all over the world. In part, I believe helping people is what motivates him to freely contribute. So, let's encourage our contributors.

It is difficult to keep pace with language subtleties and we can each do a better job honing our skills in communication. These types of suggestions are always appreciated, but honestly better done using PM or private mail.

Anyway, I'm going to return to doing something that might help someone, whether they are from the biggest, wealthiest city in the world or they live amongst the cornfields, as do I. We don't appreciate being called losers, here in Nebraska, but, given the recent tract record of our football team, who would blame you if you did.
