IDEA: Icon to provide published content's URL

I have discovered that trying to determine a content item's URL when it is published is a very difficult process. As it stands right now, these are the steps we use to determine a page's URL:
1.) Create the content
2.) Assign it to a menu
3.) Go to live site
4.) Navigate to the page
5.) Copy URL
6.) Unassign from the menu
What I would like to do is something similar to what Google does on their maps application. I would like to provide an icon (a link icon) to the left of each content item in the administration interface that provides its published URL. I am new to Joomla, and Joomla programming though I am very versed in PHP, MySQL. If anyone could provide some insight into the process, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jay
