How it is possible?

Hi,

I'm not sure if it is ok to ask for it because i don't ant to hurt someone but i think that this is little bit strange.
How it is possible that some extension in directory has over 500 votes and more than 450 reviews if it is not even 10 months old? It is about 2 reviews/votes every 3 days.
And this extension is a commercial addon. I don't think that this is something wrong but i just cannot believe that some commercial extesnion has so many users.
Strange is also that almost every of this user whom has wrote a review for this extension didn't wrote review for any other extension.

i don't know, maybe i'm wrong but this is very strange for me.

cheers,
Antonio

I might now which extension you mean.. if you visit their website and read about this component .. then you get the explanation why they have managed to get so many votes and reviews.

yes i see it now. However this statement is in the description of an other component of this producer.
I don't really think that this is fair. Every aothor of free component give his product for free and do not force his user to write an review. So he is diskriminated.
In this case you have demo of this component and you can have the full version if you write review. I know, they don't saying if it should be good review but it is clear that when someone write bad review he will never ask for the full version.

for me it is the same as if someone will say: i give you 10 buks if you write review by extension directory. Will you write tha bad review?

cheers,
Antonio

Just thinking about this. Otherwise if You have the demo version and You like it than You want to have this component.
So You can say other users that this component is ok and You can get it for free. It's a deal ;)

One condition for us to approve a review (according to our rules), is that the reviewer actually have tested the extension and just not write a review upon what they think how it works or from what they have seen from a demo. This developer offers a trial version of his extension.

The developer states very clear that they want the customers honest vote and opinion and when it's expressed in that way, it is okay for us.

As you can see if you read through the reviews, most of them are very comprehensive and well written. Of course, you take always a risk when you get something in exchange, that you tend to write it a little more positive. However, we have to remember that we are talking about a low cost extension and I believe that our members are clever and responsible and not writting something against their convictions. I'm pretty certain that we would see a lot of negative reviews if the extension didn't fulfil their expectations.

It can be discussed if it's fair against the developers that develop their extensions for free. However, according to my experience, free extensions attract much bigger audience than commercial and they also tend to get more reviews. When you start to charge money for an extension, then the reviewers also raise the standard what they demand and this reflects in the reviews.

We are monitoring this and if we should see that a developer would missuse this, then we are going to reconsider and take actions towards the affected developer.

But to be honest I think too that this is not quite ethical.
The problem is, I think, that JED is more information portal where the developers present own products and users exchanging opinions about this products.
In this way JED is used more as like adversing portal. In this case even this is commercial (mean not free) adversing.
I know; the border is very thin 8)
