Site Sub-domains offline

Post by JasynL1977 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 7:59 pm

Wow, it seems that I touched a sensitive spot for someone on the Joomla team when I was asking what was wrong with the Web site today...
Jason

Perhaps if you posted a new thread on the issue rather than assuming our site is hacked you'd receive a better response. FYI Apache was down and needed to be restarted on one of our 5 servers. Only the Extensions site and the doc.joomla.org site were affected though.

As for us being strangely silent on 'these' issues... I really have no idea what you are hinting at..

Brad Baker
I agree that I should have posted a new thread, but I did not assume that the site was hacked. I went to the appropriate forum (I believe), Sites & Infrastructure, to see if anyone else was reporting a similar problem. The thead that I saw ("Joomla site hacked?") seemed potentially relevant and just so happened to be listed third from the top, dated from only a few days ago. It was easy to wonder if there was any connection, as the site was not working. Nevertheless, I never said that it was hacked:
Is the Joomla site down or hacked?

I cannot perform a search, preview the demo, access the latest Joomla 1.5 stable download, or access the extensions page.

Is there something going on over there? It seems the Joomla team is strangely silent on these issues; it actually surprises me. You would think that a web site going down like this, especially one that generates a ton of traffic, would not go unnoticed.
In regards to what you said about what was affected, you missed the point.... JoomlaCode was and is still down. The demo site was and is still down. In fact, the search page for the forum was not working for me, as someone complained about on March 7 (appears to be working fine now). That is, in addition to the extensions and doc sites not working. Without knowing what your back-end configuration is like (not that I care to, either), a simple end-user like myself is left wondering what on the Web site is working. Not to mention that they were down for awhile.

Considering how maximum up-time is important for your organization, I thought it was surprising that it was down for so long. I think it is was fair for me to ask if there was anything going on.

I stated the facts... I offered a possible explanation based on those facts. And I expressed my surprise. In other words, there was no announcement anywhere that the server was going to be down.

I cannot see how you would conclude I was hinting at anything. In the end, I suppose you are entitled to feel however you like.

Have a good day,
Jason

BTW, for the record, you also cut-n-pasted your previous post in another thread on these forums. You can understand the frustration we experience when while doing our best to serve the community, people won't even follow the simple forum rules around here.

I'm not saying you are a bad person, but just spare a thought next time for some of us running things around here, and try to be more courteous.

As for the demo site, there is a thread in this forum (S&I) on just that. Please take a look at that one.

Thanks.
