Modules

I have a few simple .php programs I worked on and want to install as Joomla modules instead of using a module that will allow me to run the .php code.
Is it a fairly straightforward matter to simply write the code necessary to use the programs as modules ... sort of write the joomla module code around the php files, so to speak? Sorry if this is a rather "newb" type of question...
