FAQ Apply & Save buttons do not react - this may help you as it did for me

;D

Well after hours of frustration and a lot of reading through the posts here and elsewhere I finally found a solution and a route I would like to pass on.

Firstly I am surprised after seeing so many have had the same issue that there has not been a consolidation of tips in one sticky.

So here goes...

Firstly I had a problem with viewing my site from other lan box's, which was a result of the configuration.php not being able to work via ip when the Live State shows localhost. OK I thought it could resolve (and it did on more than one occasion, but just as I wanted to show my boss it failed ROFLMAO) So, that led me to changing it to my dynamic address. Super all working, so I thought...

I wanted to edit, which I could do without any issues earlier...

No go! No matter what process edit first, apply first, refresh apply, deleting IE cache, no way. Tried Mozilla, firefox, opera and IE, no way!

So, I saw the page errors, which actually are java errors coming up and firefox under tools has a very fast troubleshooter, which told me it was the editor, ok great!!! Now I knew what, but why!?!

So, after searching here and there I found the editor config (which is no means simple either) it is in "mambots" and I thought (too easy) why not deactivate the one causing the issue (only had TinyMCE installed), but still no go. You have to and here it is, make sure you activate "No Editor" and select that and then all your issues are gone. I could once more add and delete merrily until my heart was content. It is now 2am and time for a small Bailey's to celebrate and I hope I can save the next person a few hours less confusion.

I read a lot about anti-virus and firewalls, all valid tips no doubt and have solved many issues I am sure. But, I would recommend using firefox and see under tools "javascript console" This will tell you what the issue is!"  ;)

Night All!

thanks @vonbayern! also save me a shot of the baileys! :)

1. what do you mean "add and delete"? add and delete of what? content? menus?..

2. guess you have a typo in your first post.. i cant recall joomla calling a java in the core. maybe you mean js(javascript). be noted java and javascript are two different animal. :)

thanks for adding your experience to the FAQ's.

Gladly,  ;)

>>>1. what do you mean "add and delete"? add and delete of what? content? menus?..

It was only text, but both from backend and frontend user. so when posting news or links as frontend user, they would fail to be saved. Backend was more changing or adding content. I have a few machines here I can play with and even though I installed them the same way and at the same time I definately have different reactions to how joomla is reacting to the editor. They are installed on XP machines and I play with the administration side from linux and winz box's.

Very well spotted, it was a typo error, but another Baileys is on the house ;D

Most welcome and I in return thank both yourself and this community for all there posts, as there are so many excellent tips that actually have helped me through my first couple of days with the software. A Noob, but finding my way back to web management that I have sadly left all those years ago. Who knows maybe joomly can give me that kick again, that I had in the Macromedia 3 and Flash 4 days.

Have a nice day!
