I just wanted to let those working with non-profits know about a tool that I'm developing named Database Query.  I've been developing it for almost two years now, previously for the Mambo CMS, and now for Joomla.  DBQ lets one make SQL queries to a database.  You can place variables in the query that will generate a form for the user.  The user completes the form, their input is put into the query, and the results are displayed to the user.  But you can do more than show information from a database - you can also add records, edit records, or anything that you can do with SQL.

What can you do with this component?  For example, if you had a database of, oh I don't know, lost children, and you wanted people to add information about lost children, well, create the query, add some variables, and publish the query.  Then, you can create a form that lets one search the database.  There are many features but this is the basic idea.

How does this component relate to non-profits?  Database Query began as a project while I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Romania and I'm still developing it while I'm in Thailand, where I help NGOs make websites.  I'm trying to orient it more to the NGO community because many of the components out there are for commercial applications and non-profits don't have a lot of money to hire a developer to make a custom application.

This is great work, and i think could very well be helpful to the entire NPO community.  If you have some live examples of how an NPO is using this, that'd be great!
