Hi,
I am new to Joomla and I am looking for a few components for a non profit website. This is what I am looking for.
1. a componant that will allow posters to post a message like a guest book but it needs to work like the following link.
http://homepages.which.net/~michael.mil ... html
Of course with out the music. But it needs to be able to light the candle and post like that above link.
I also tried to go to the page for prayer request component. I would like to know if that is available. I could not get it to pull up.
Since I am new to joomla any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It sounds like you want a commenting system, although the "comments" may not actually be comments. I haven't used anything like this, but a quick search of the extensions site (extensions.joomla.org) pulls up a lot of choices. Joomla Comments looks promising.
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/ .
Didn't you like the music? I found it rather sentimental.

I used the AkoBook guestbook component and modified the code to get what I have here:
http://www.empangenispca.co.za/componen ... Itemid,99/Is that what you're looking for?

Hello Justin. I'm looking for exactly what you have in your site, but I'll use it for prayers, so the candle will be different. I have several options, but lack the modified code. Are you able to share it? Is for a good cause. Or at least point me to the place to start?
Many thanks

Hi Martin,
I have attached the file. Just install it in Joomla components. The candle file must be images/stories/candle.gif so make sure your candle file is called that.

Wow, thanks Justin. It will be used for a couple of religious related non profit sites, and will be used for personal prayers. God will reward you greatly.
Many many thanks.

Sure do. One of them is
http://www.asomaus.com.ve. Is all in spanish, so I will have to change some text, since I don't want it to be a "guestbook" but a "petition" book. But as you can see on the first post, is working great. I modified the candle.php removing the candle size restriction, that way it ca show the big candle that we use.
Look for the component in the top menu called: "peticiones"
BTW, sorry for calling you Kevin. I thing I saw "Home Alone" last night HAHAHAHA!!!

Thanks J.
Well, now I have something to begin with. My task is to first find three candle gifs, one full, the other consumed to the half, and the third almost extinwished. Then do some calculations to query for the post date and show the right candle gif, so each petition will last three days. Then purge them automatically at the third day.
I'll let you know when I have something to show, and of course will share the code back to you.

Hello Justin; Me too, this is exactly what I was looking for...
I would expect that it can be configured so only registered members would be able to 'light' the candle...
Thank you for sharing this, will let you know when I have this installed

Pleasure. Yes you'll be able to make it only for registered users. It's based on the AkoBook component.
@martin... I just checked out your guestbook and the hacking looks good!

Justin, please take a look at it now. It now have 45 different candles that last 45 hours lighted. Each hour consuming a bit more. I made it look like the one a gratefullness.org, but with my personal touch
If you or someone wants it, let me know. I need to repackage the component, and do some comments on the source code, to make it ready for deployment.
cheers

Wow that's clever. Why 45 hours?

Because is half the number of pixels between the candle fully extended and exhausted. 90 hours was too much for a candle

My, you really are creative Martin. I just installed 'as is'... I didn't even realize that the candle I choose was exactly the same the Justin used...
Would there be any way to encourage people to make a small donation? And PayPal button somehow incorporated right there?

Hmm, things are not so easy here in Venezuela for online transactions. But we are looking for options. Thanks for your comments Anna.
