Having never used a forge before, and now a project member (developer access), a few questions.

If these are covered in the pdf manual, please point me to the section/page... I probably missed it....

How does one make a document accessible to the public?
- do you go down the same path to release it as you would repository files, and release into theĀ  area?
- if so, do you need to create a section in 'Files Released' for released documents?

Is it possible to set discussions totally private ie project mambers only?
- if so, is this setting available only to project admin?

That'll do for now... no rush on answers... :P

Dont think you can make documents public.
Guess the docs you want to release could be added to file releases

As to the second bit - im sure u can keep some discussions private, but, am the project admin, so...

Hope this is what you were asking and that this reply helps.

Couple of good questions:

1. How does one make a document accessible to the public?

A project admin must ensure that (a) the project is a public (not private project). That's done via the Project Admin botton on the project toolbar, followed by selection of permissions and the 'default access permissions' tab. At the same time, change the Application Permissions for the document manager to View: All Users.

2. Is it possible to set discussions totally private ie project members only?

Ensure that default access permissions are not too liberal(!) and define a role that only allows project members with that role to view/post to the discussions you want to keep private.
