We are in the process of using Joomla! to revamp and revise a large academic department Web site at a major research university. The amount of information and content of this site quite impressive. Having transferred much of original content into the stock Joomla! set up - to test the system. We are now ready to start development for real and have a few questions.
1. Is there a component out there to allow for greater levels of content storage? Our information is too diverse to fit neatly into the three tier scheme. At our very lo-prototype level, we have attempted to mask this by parenting sections - nesting sections within section, multiple categories within categories. If no such adjustment tool exists, we were wondering if there is some way (some component) to allow a collation of these multiple subsections on the back end.
2. The stock Joomla program does not, seemingly, allow us to link content items to pieces of static content. We would like, for example, to be able to create pages of content that link to links embedded within another content item. To this point (we are newbies), the only means of our completing this has been to create an unpublished menu, to create a piece of static content, to connect that static content item to the unpublished menu, to pick up the URL for that static piece of content and create an old-fashioned link. Is this really the only way?
3. We are also looking for a way to create major tables of content - faculty listing, course listings - that could be filtered appropriately, that would allow us to link faculty bios and publications listings. We would also like to disseminate particular profiles and listings to certain spaces. We would like to do something within Joomla, rather than attempt to develop with CSS. (I can explain this more completely if need be).
I have plenty of other questions, but I think we should start with these...
Thanks, Tara
