Upcoming non-profit technology conferences

As we begin our advocacy work in the non-profit communities, we're in need of listing all the upcoming non-profit technology conferences so that we can make sure we have Joomla individuals there to spread the word! I know of the NTEN conferences here in the US, but we're going to need to have a broader reach. Please feel free to post upcoming non-profit technology conferences that you know of, and then we'll build a calendar so that we can have as many of these conferences covered.
Best,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I am attending Mobile Active "Convergence" next week:
http://www.aspirationtech.org/event/mobileactive"The goal of the MobileActive convergence is to explore the power of the cell phone as an organizing and campaign communication tool with leading activists from all over the world; to share knowledge, stories, and strategies; and accelerate the use of cell phones as a successful tool in campaigns, human rights efforts and field organizing."
Cheers,
Tobias

Well... it's not really a conference... but is the SON Romania annual meeting at the end of October...
There will be 13 NGO's participating and I will hold a workshop on the use of FOSS in NGO sector.
My study case will be CMS with LAMP & Joomla.
Hopefully this will trigger wider OSS usage among NGOs.
I also plan to establish a website with FOSS resources for NGOs.

Has anyone developed a "standard" presentation on Joomla aimed at the non-profit sector? Or is there a general presentation that could be used/modified to address that topic?

Maybe the Joomla marketing team could do something like this? It would probably help all of us promoting Joomla as an OSS CMS.

Hey Todd,
Regarding presentations, we've made presentations on OSS CMSes in general to the non-profit community, but nothing in particular with respect to Joomla. if the marketing team can provide us with a good base presentation, I'm sure we can put our heads together and edit one for the NPO Sector.

That would be great - I want to make sure that I'm selling the right messages to the community - and it would be great if we were all presenting the same vision of Joomla.

Hello,
I've created "Come on... Joomla!" in the idea of giving marketing support for the french community.
I didn't even think tere was a marketing team for Joomla! It's a very good news for me !
Let me know if you have shuch documents. I'm ready to translate them into french to make us (french-speaking people) able to apply your marketing plans. If it's already done (maybe canadian community could have done it) please tell where I can get them.
Regards,
Laurent Belloeil.

hum hum...
When i read your post, Mr Belloeil, you seem talk in the name of the french community.
But I have never seen one of your contibution nor action in this way.
I'm one of the admin of (one of) the support forum of the french community :
http://forum.joomlafacile.com.
In this team, there are also "old" members of the $ambo translation team.
I think this persons are better to translate and transmit this documents to the french community.
Actually, we (this french support team) working to join Mr Lexel, admin of
http://www.joomla.fr (ex $ambofrance.org, the great and best french portal). So, Mr Belloiel, before to try to be our "representator", it could be a good thing that you try to work with us, don't you think ?
It will be better for the french community, and the joomla! community too.

Ok Dolmenhir,
I think it's not the place to discuss about this. (see may precedent PM)
If you don't agree with my point of view or the way I present my project, please post on my site, but not here...
I respect the great work you do on mambofrance and I'm open to any debate on any subject around Joomla!
May be we can work together...

The first ever GodBlogCon
http://www.godblogcon.com/ is happening the 13th, 14th, and 15th on the campus of Biola University in LaMirada, California, USA (just minutes from Disneyland). It's only about 300 people, but they are some of the biggest names in Christian blogging and right-wing political blogging: Hugh Hewitt, David Wayne, Joe Carter, and many others.
I'm going to be at the Friday sessions. My (JC) "GodBlog" runs on Joomla! and I'll let everyone know it, if possible.

NTEN Webinar: Publishing with Open Source Software
Posted: Tue Oct 11, 2005 1:26 pm
by cozimek
Hey everyone,
I'm going to be giving a Webinar to the NTEN community tomorrow (Oct. 12) at 10am PDT. If you're interested in getting a bigger picture about the total cost of ownership and cost-benefit analysis of using open source software over proprietary systems, definitely join in with us.
http://www.nten.org/webinarsBelow is a description of the seminar:
Online Publishing and Content Management with Open Source SoftwareOne of the richest areas of open source software is in content management systems - a tool that nonprofits are embracing at exponential rates. Currently, there are more than 50 open source content management systems, but where would one go to compare this wide variety? Why would a technical assistant choose an open source CMS as opposed to a proprietary package? What is the total cost of ownership of an open source CMS, and how does its life cycle differ from proprietary systems? This webinar will provide case studies of open source content management implementations, and provide an overview of the available tools.

Hi All
First posting from a Joomla! newbie...
This is an announcement for an event that forum members might be interested in, and a few links for other events that taken place that I haven't seen mentioned in the thread so far.
SocialSource 2005I'm one of the organisers of a
one-day event taking place in London, UK, this week on Wednesday 9 November, examining the potential that Open Source has for the Voluntary/Non-profit sectors. The focus is not just on CMSs by any means, although we so far have one session describing Oxfam's Plone implementation.
Hence this is an invitation to anyone who is interested and around in London to come along - attendance is free. All details of the event, including the proposed programme, can be found at
http://www.socialsource.org.ukSpeaking at SocialSource 2005I realise this is very short notice, but if anyone wanted to come along and speak about the Open Source CMS scene (level of development etc, Joomla!...), that would be something we would be very interested in. Please get in touch if you're interested. Alternatively, if you know other people in the Joomla community who might be interested, please feel free to forward notice of the event.
Other Non-profit focused events & InitiativesSocialSource is in the same vein as the Penguin Days that have taken place in the US (
http://www.penguinday.org).
Two other recent events that forum members might have been interested in can be found on the following wikis (also UK based):
http://www.technologyandsocialaction.org/http://opencongress.omweb.org/OSS Watch (
http://www.oss-watch.ac.uk/), who monitor Open Source for the UK Higher Education sector, also list events on their site. Similarly for Schoolforge
http://www.schoolforge.org.uk/Hope those are useful,
Regards
Adrian
