Hi all,

I'm starting to use joomla and discovering it's wonderfull potential and i need directions and help with somehing i'm trying to start. I want to create a school website that could support allthe school matters.

Let me explain,
I wanted to create different user status for teachers, students, parents and school administration. The school Administrators would create time tables, create different classes, add grades and test scores as well as final course scores, report students missing classes, home works, etc.
Parents could check for their child's school performance, be notified if he fails some class, etc.

This would be a very helpfull thing and very inovative, bringing a lot of possibilites to parents and schools.

I really need some expert advices because i have no actual knowledge to do this and i really need some directions and lot of help!

Thanks in advance

In my opinion, mcsmom is THE expert you should talk to. She built this < http://www.manhattancountryschool.org/ > So, you might want to PM her. She will certainly be able to point you in the right direction.

You also might want to check out MamboSchools < http://demo.mamboschools.com/ >

Good luck!
Amy

Take a look at Moodle (http://moodle.org/)
There should be integration "hacks" to integrate it with Joomla!

As a warning, I understand that "bridge" between Joomla! and Mambo (thus, Joomla!) is considered abandonware and has reported security issues.

here's an article on the integration
what i read from this one, it doesnt seem to be an actual "bridge" component

http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=17805

edit: if the site asks you to login, just press login as guest

That is interesting, thanks for sharing. It looks like they design each to look like one, but security is not integrated. For many, that might be enough. (The bridge is listed in a response in there. If someone really needed it, I suppose the bridge could be "adopted" if it's open source.) Thanks for sharing!

Joom.ca has built it for a Day Care, but the same can be used for a school.
It is similar idea - Teacher / parent / kid communication and reports built on AJAX.

Max -

Do you have that listed on the Extensions site? Looks promising! It would be nice to have it listed there since that is where people look.

Thanks!
Amy :)

One of the best school websites based on Joomla! and  Rockettheme template here.  This one blows me away everytime, it's one great website.
