Re-sizing an uploaded image

I am a newbie, and just started to learn Joomla. I have figured out how to upload an image (picture) but it is too large when I put it on the front page. I have a brand new Joomla book but cannot find how to do this in it. Can someone give me a suggestion?

The best way of course is, when you already resize the image to the size you need, before you upload it. Because as you said, it is too big, and big means big file, and longer to be loaded on your website. So if you size it right before you upload, you will save webspace, and your website is faster loading.
If you do not know which size you need on your website and it always changes, and maybe you need an image on one site in small and on the other in big, I would suggest that you get you a new editor for Joomla. Personally I am using the JCE, because it gives a lot of options and plugins which help you to design your content.
The Homepage of the JCE developers is

Many thanks, I have Adobe Elements and tried to reduce the size using their tools and then re-uploaded them and I still got the same result. I'll look into JCE and see if that is a better fit for me.

I am glad I could help and I am glad you like the tool. It is the closes you get to Photoshop without having a pricetag on it. Good Luck with your project. Let us know if you need more help.
