The Joomla! Logo & Brand Manual

Great to see that the logo and usage guidleines have been finalised !. See:-

  http://www.joomla.org/content/view/259/70/

Disappointing to see that almost immediately we have a new template "Joomla Black" from Joomla Resource that does not adhere to the Brand Manual guidleines. See:-

  http://www.joomlademo.org/

Of greater worry is that this template was posted on the Joomla! site under Template News. See:-

  http://www.joomla.org/content/blogcategory/19/51/

While I'm sure that this Logo "breach" is an oversight by the party concerned, and notwithstanding the Joomla! page "Disclaimer" for this particular section, there still should be some checking (authorisation and/or editing) of material before it is published to the site.

Finally - I notice that there is no "WebMaster" E-Mail link in the footer of any of the Joomla! website pages (as is usual at a lot of sites so feedback can be sent). Perhaps a link to the WebMaster or relative "topic/section" owner could be included in the footer ?

Well the person who made that demo must have included the logo before the logo was released so i guess he has no way oh knowing since the logo has just been released.

Hi bluesaze:

Not true ... It was done after the winning Logo was announced but (perhaps) before the Logo & Brand Manual advising how to use the Logo became public.

However, the main point of my post was that on one portion of the Jooomla! site we have the Joomla! team saying "here is the new Logo and here's a guide on how to use it, and please don't modify the new logo/text in any way", and on the template portion of the site we have a new template that doesn't conform.

This template post should have been picked up as not meeting the (new) Logo guidelines and the author should have been notified to change it before it was allowed to be published on the Joomla! site.

If the "Logo Guidlines" are not going to be "enforced" (especially on the Joomla! site), then it was a waste of time to create them.

The logo branding guidelines were only released yesterday, mere hours ago in fact. That template was released after the logo was announced.

There is a difference between the logo being announced and ppl taking the initiative to make use of it, and implying that people are deliberately breaching branding guidelines that have only just been announced.

I really think that for the next few weeks people should be given a break in regards to apparent breaches of the new branding guidelines, i mean it hasn't even had enough time to get out to the entire community yet.

Also consider how these new guidelines will be enforced. Does the core team really have the time to chase everyone up immediately and ask people to comply? I don't think so, and I don't think anyone should expect the team to spend all their time doing that either.

Let's not make minor issues about the new logo rules into major headaches for anyone in the community.

Hi idigital:

Whoaa there ... I haven't implied that anyone has deliberately breached the new branding guidelines and I'm not looking to turn a minor issue into something major.

My points were:-
pkortge wrote:While I'm sure that this Logo "breach" is an oversight by the party concerned, and notwithstanding the Joomla! page "Disclaimer" for this particular section, there still should be some checking (authorisation and/or editing) of material before it is published to the site.

While it is impossible (and a total waste of time to try) to police Logo & Brand Manual guidelines in the wider Joomla! community, it is easily done on the home Joomla! site.

The "thrust" of my posts were:-

  • Perhaps the Template section should have a Moderator ?
  • And, perhaps that any Template that gets mentioned here (in future) meets (at the minimum) the Logo & Brand Manual guidelines.

Hopefully, that settles the matter  :)

On the issue of Templates in general ...

What I would like to see is a Template forum or area where only the "Best of the Best" templates are displayed.

Where templates are displayed that meet all the following criteria. Namely, they:-

  • meet the Joomla! Logo & Brand Manual guidelines
  • fully utilise all the core Joomla! modules and "degrade gracefully" when modules are unpublished
  • meet the basic level of code standards and tap into the power of the Core Joomla! API's
  • use best-practice web standards like XHTML and CSS - and validate !
  • are (in future) compliant with US Section 508, and the W3C's AA rating for accessibility.

Ahh Thats a very good suggestion. I am tired of looking at thousands of templates. Not that I use them I prefer to develop my own and be original. But a good template gives you new ideas and inspirations.

Eh, sorry about that, didn't get enough sleep last night and ability to read entire posts and comprehend them was somewhat impaired ;)

On your general template points about a best of the best type section, I think you have a point but I think that is something that will most likely be handled by the Standards and Guidelines team in the near future.

Cheers,
