Re: Discussions - does one have to be a registered developer to take part?
You do not need to be a member of a public project to be able to post to it. The project admin can set "default access permissions" so that no further role settings need be in place to allow "all logged in users" to post to forums within their project. Now, since the permissions system is new to mos...

Understood.
I think this request is more appropriate for the forums that deal with component/module development.
I'll move this post to a forum where I think you'll be able to get better help than in this forum.

Couple of comments: Re: "There seem (sic) no project home page to link to an online documentation" You can put documentation in the Document manager. Re: The term artifacts
Actually people report bugs, raise enhancement requests and do lots of other things with trackers. SourceForge supports an unlimited number of trackers within a project. Each tracker is typically used for a single purpose: raising bugs i.e. "A bug tracker", raising enhancements requests i.e. "An enh...

Re: have I got this straight??
Indeed. There SourceForge has a SOAP API - one could write a small app that allows you to point at one or more files, and have the app grab them, zip them together and put them in the file release system. If any one is interested in doing this we're planning to run a one-hour webinar in the next cou...

Just a note on Monitoring. It's quite powerful and can be tuned to meet the needs of the individual. Re: Feature request: Email on commit
Regarding e-mail on commit. There is no application monitoring for SCM's. You can view the committ logger to see all commits via the SourceForge UI - but you don't get e-mail based on this. What I've seen teams do is to require an association at check-in time e.g. when checking in code, you must ass...

Right - and we will be implementing many of the things that have been requested by the community. Just a brief historical note. GForge is based on SourceForge.net code base from around 1999/2000. SourceForge.net continues to run that php code base (but with additonal capabilitues, code corrections, ...

Re: Edit file release dates
Dates set by SourceForge are the dates on which the actions occur. If we allow changing of dates we loose confidence in the activity etc metrics that are gathered. So no. We won't implement such a capability. (but I do understand why this would be useful to you. perhaps a post in your project forum ...
