can't navigate beyond the first page of search results in this forum
If I do a search in this forum as a whole, or in any of the boards, when I click to go to page 2 of the results, or any other page for that matter, it doesn't work. I can only view the results for page 1.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I am logged in, and I am using IE 7.0

Re: can't navigate beyond the first page of search results in this forum
Since Bammhost is now our second reported problem, I pulled out IE on my XP machine here at home and experienced the problem when clicking the number 2 on the search results. (First picture.)
The previous report suggested it was Vista and then that it failed with Firefox, as well. I don't believe this is a Vista Issue, but rather an IE 7 issue (and possible IE 6?) but it is *not* a problem with Firefox.
Solution 1: In the short run, use Firefox. Then in the long run, use Firefox. That will resolve your IE / Forum search problems forever.
I searched Google tonight and it appears that on August 14, 2007 Microsoft released a set of security updates for IE 6 and 7. Apparently, KB937143 seems to have caused some problems. There was intensified Phishing Filtering - both in the IE browser - and in Microsoft databases - that are causing problem with many param fields. That might be the issue.
Disabling the Phishing Filter did not help (In IE 7, Tools-Phishing filter-Phishing Filter Settings, Disable Phishing Filter.) That is consistent with other postings.
Other fingers point at Virus Protection software and IE combinations. When I disabled my Virus Scan software, IE stopped connecting altogether, even when I enabled it.
After an hour of searching, I'll provide a second solution:
Solution 2: Use Firefox for your Forum searches
Or
Solution 3: Search this forum from Google.
Something is going on with IE 7 (possibly 6). It appears to have started with the mid-August security updates. I cannot find a known solution although there's a lot to dig throughif someone wants to try to figure it out.
I did try - but, honestly, I don't use IE unless I am testing a website, so, I have very little interest in this problem. I will vouch for it being a problem and offer my moral support.
Good luck!
Amy

Re: can't navigate beyond the first page of search results in this forum
For what it's worth, actually I search these forums on a daily basis. I have been using IE 7 for several months and did not start experiencing this problem until this morning.
To verify this, do a search for the term: title images. A discussion that I posted in just yesterday is located on page 2 or 3 of those search results. Now I can't reach that discussion using the search feature, instead I have to view my recent posts or use the link in an email when someone posts in the discussion.
I saw this exact problem in another forum a while back that I frequent which is oscommerce, they corrected the issue, but I have no idea how they corrected it.

I did confirm that - even have a picture of the search results with the number 2 circled.
Would you mind asking OSCommerce how they resolved their problem? That might be helpful.
Thanks!
Amy
PS - nice search, Brad. I'll be certain to share that in the future.

I already posted at their forums asking how they resolved the issue....awaiting a response, if I get one.
Out of curiosity, when was this forum updated to SMF 1.1.4?
Also, thanks for the search Brad

Thanks for following up with them, Bammhost, if you see these as possibly related. BTW, OSCommerce uses InvisionPower, not SMF for their forums.
Also, the searching that I did never yielded a single fix as being on the website side. All resolutions came from Microsoft removing a host from their suspect list, or the client changing. It does appear to me to be IE related.
In your research, what types of conclusions are you drawing? Does this seem like a browser issue to you?
Always something!

Re: can't navigate beyond the first page of search results in this forum
Yes, I knew the forum was different...but often I have found that by viewing a fix for a similar issue even if the software is different, it will generally give me an idea in what direction I need to go to resolve issues across my own servers.
What do I think it is?...honestly I wasn't sure since the MS update came out in August and since I was able to navigate the search until recently, I was leaning more toward the issue being with SMF. But since Brad confirmed that SMF was updated the day they released their update which was on the 24th...which I believe was before I started having this problem, this left me in doubt as to what it is.
However, after checking across my servers, I found a few users who have not updated their SMF 1.1.3 to 1.1.4, I can confirm that this is not happening in 1.1.3.
I am currently running nightly maintenance across my servers, when I am finished I will check the 1.1.4 installations.

I can confirm that this is not happening on SMF 1.1.4 installations on my servers as well.
Still haven't heard back from oscommerce...will post when I have.

Re: can't navigate beyond the first page of search results in this forum
I'm a rank amateur with all of this so I'm afraid I have nothing to offer other than to confirm that I too have this same problem when using IE 7 on Windows XP. If I use Firefox then everything works fine. I can't recall exactly when I started experiencing the problem but I think it was about 2-3 weeks ago.
If I can be of any help then please let me know.

Have you had problems like this with any other forums you visit?

I've not experienced any problems (like this or otherwise) with other forums. However, the number of forums I frequent probably doesn't represent a great sample! I have spent considerable time recently on the Virtuemart forums though and I've not had any problems there.

I'm no further down the path to understanding why this problem exists but just to update others, I only encounter this problem with IE. In FF no such issues.

Why even use IE? Just use FF, you security and browsing experience will be better anyway

Or Flock - that is one cool browser if you are into the social networking sites -- and the Joomla! search works on page 2, as well.
