We want to organize a Joomla Day in Bolivia
Hi Akede !
I have looked in the forum regarding how to organize a JoomlaDay, and I have found many ideas here, thank you. We have a small company that creates web sites with Joomla!, and we would like to spread the word regarding this software here in Bolivia
We have established contact with the “Comunidad de Software Libre de Bolivia”, they are organizing the Free Software Conference at the end of October in which we are going to give a lecture discussing the service we provide with Joomla!.
Nevertheless we want to support this entity in organizing a day geared specifically at discussing Joomla, which would be set for the last week of November or the first week of December.
The question is the following: How can we go about obtaining the participation of a member of the Joomla team? Whether it be via teleconference or their actual presence, or any other idea to help us.
Thanks,
Y un abrazo grande desde Bolivia !!!
Oscarín.

Re: We want to organize a Joomla Day in Bolivia
Hi Oscarin,
Do you have contact to your local translation teams / community already? It is always good to have those contacts. I see in the translation team lists that there is no special team for your country and assume you might use the Spanish language packs.
In general we need to check dates and schedules for the team members. A teleconference presents from one of our members should be no real problem. I also can check if we have a working group member in the region and may be to get you in touch with other communities in South America. Do you have already a date/month in mind?

from Bolivia: Some of our ideas for topics/presentations
We have scheduled Joomla! Day for Saturday December 1st at the University of Aquino Bolivia (UDABOL) in the city of La Paz and are coordinating the event with the Free Software Community of Bolivia - they might actually take advantage of our initiative to organize two or three evenings of presentations/events related to the Community the week prior to Joomla! Day. There is also the possibility of simultaneously putting together a Joomla! Day in another city such as Santa Cruz, in which case the two events would take place in parallel and would have the same program.
Some of our ideas for topics/presentations include:
Some of our ideas for topics/presentations include:
- A "What is Joomla!" conference for those who do not know the software, success stories (Web sites designed with Joomla!). Directed to businesses and students of diverse areas of study.
- Putting together a Web site from scratch with Joomla!. Directed to students.
- Development of templates. Directed to students and developers.
- What is new about Joomla 1.5 (Teleconference with the Joomla! team)
- Joomla for XYZ (this is where we are open to suggestions as to what other topics we could include?)

Re: We want to organize a Joomla Day in Bolivia
i missed this topic, but i found it on the calendar. Oscarin I'm from Chile, and i just want to congratulate you for such a good initiative, i think its more than necessary to spread the voice about joomla! and CMS's in general, specially here in South America where theres still a lot of work to do in the publishing of contents, specially with medium and small businesses
I hope this Joomla Day in Bolivia becomes in the first of a lot of Joomla Days in every south American country, because there's still a lot of people who don't know even what is a CMS and this kind of events gives them the needed tools to start in this fantastic world.
I also like the idea of involving the students community.
Well about the suggestions, i think it would be great if you cant give a conference describing some of the new features of the Framework itself, not just about "Joomla the CMS" but, about the way it works, i know this should be more focused to developers, but in my own case i would love to assist to such a conference specially now that Joomla 1.5 is at RC3.
Well i hope this initiative becomes true and the people get interested on it, Good Luck.

Re: We want to organize a Joomla Day in Bolivia
Hi Alex,
Just wanted to let you know that I am actually in Switzerland until July, so hopefully we can organize a Bolivia/La Paz Joomla! Day in the fall after I get back - I will keep you posted as my return depends a little bit on a family matter and is therefore not completely up to me. That being said, my business partner (Oscar, cc'd) and I will keep an eye on what other countries are putting together so we can learn and be inspired by them for when we launch the Bolivia project!
All the best,
Shahnaz
