Post by markp17 » Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:53 pm

hi all

firstly i must say open days, welcome days, bug days etc are great ideas!! However are all these days bringing forward a stable version of 1.5 or simply delaying it?

thanks

Hi,

First of all can you please follow the forum rules and create new topics for questions which are not directly related to an existing thread.

~~

To your question.
I'm wondering what the development and QA of a stable release has to do with an info day for your local community? From my perspective nothing.

This is specially because the Joomla! teams have not really something to do with those events except may be presenting something during the day or talk to the people attending the event.

Oh those talks might be really important, because during a talk like that someone from the community might be able to explain a certain issue more easily and the developer then understands why a certain issues exists even if he/she never thought about it before ;-).

I personally think that those events support a stable release a lot even so it might look like to being directly linked and additional effort, which is correct. As said this additional effort is managed by people that have nothing to do with development at all (either the community members or members of the foundation working group).

Cheers

this is a new topic, so not sure what you mean??

From my understanding of these events I thought they were for bug stomping..I did not realise they were coffee mornings!!

So I am not sure why the aggression as I was only asking!!

We are not all as well versed on these events as the organisers or developers, we are simply the dumb public who use joomla and make it popular I suppose..

Sorry I ever asked the question now...

Hi,

sorry if this sounded aggressively. You answered to the Joomla!Day New Zealand not to the bug squeeze events, this is what confused :).

Related to the bug squeezing events. Yes they helped a lot.

We gained 2 new contributors for the development working group, squeezed most of the open bugs, found more than 20 new bugs which had been fixed. Those events had been really excellent.

And trust me, I would never consider anybody in our community dumb. I have experiences talks to people I never spoke before and they surprised all of us a lot. Everybody here has his own skills and this is what this community is all about. Working all together and this very well.

Shall I move the topic to the other thread?
