Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
Hello to all,
I noticed that reviewsforjoomla.com shows this message:
This account has been suspended.
Either the domain has been overused, or the reseller ran out of resources.
And my JReviews license has suddenly become invalid! I'm in the middle of a big project and I'm not able to go on.
Does anybody know what happened? Anyone is in contact with Alejandro?
Happy New Year to everyone

Re: Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
I ran into the very same problem. Like you, it now says my license is invalid and I get the message that the account is disabled when I go to reviewsforjoomla.com . I tried emailing Alejandro through the support email address I had for him, but of course it's the same domain and the email bounced back.
I'm very concerned. I've put a lot of time into building up a large web site around JReviews.

Hi Alisha,
I'm also somewhat concerned, but JReviews is one of the top rated extensions here at joomla.org and has lots of users. I'm sure that somebody will be able to contact him and give us some info!
I also tried to contact him through the support email with no success.

It was up and running just a couple of days ago. Hopefully the site just had run out of bandwith resources now at the end of the year and will be up and running tomorrow again.
About the licences. Did you guys have trial licenses or have you purchased JReviews?

Thanks Lorenzo,
I'm hoping the same (a technical/bandwidth problem).
Mine is a purchased - fully functional (unlimited) license. It has been running with no problems for a couple of months.

Mine was also purchased. I've had it for 3-4 months. The front end still works, but the message about an invalid license comes up when I try to go into the admin functions. It seems odd that this would happen at the same time their website is down. Does anyone know if it is going to the reviewsforzoomla site for verification of the license? If so, that is a concern. I don't like the idea that my site is dependent on a developer's site to function.

Re: Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
Hello,
I also noticed the problem.
I bought the full license but I just realized that the key will expire in a week, even if my license expiration date is "Never".
I just launched my web site http://www.sommeliervirtuel.com this week and I am a bit worried about the issue. I realized this when sending an email to Alejandro to tell them that my site was working and he could referece it to show it to his other customers.
I did the following test (note that I run a local copy of the website on my laptop):
I changed the date to 2008 in my laptop and the Jreviews configuration & management stopped working, even if my license should never expire.
Why don't we get a key that is valid forever after buying a full license??? This does not make any sense! The full license was bought december 24th 2007 and the key will expire january 8th 2008.
If you want to continue working in the meantime (if working locally in your PC), just change the date and you will be able to work until the Jreviews site comes back to life!
I hope the site will come back soon.
Mathieu

Re: Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
Hello Everyone,
Please don't be concerned, I have spoken with my hosting company and everything should be up soon. I am actually on vacation and today was the one single day when I didn't go online and this happened. Murphy's Law! The incredible success of the site led to too many connections which resulted on the account being suspended.
First thing I will do once I get back is to get a dedicated server to avoid this problem. As to this comment:
There is an article in the Knowledge Base to which you get a direct link in the email you receive after you purchase which explains exactly how the license works. Once you purchase the license, after a time period in which I can confirm you are not a fraudulent user you can get your permanent key and never have to worry about me again. I am quite flexible and for most users that have issues or request it I create the permanent key if they request it. After almost 2 years in operation I have found this is the most flexible solution. The average user buys the license, installs it on one site and then changes his mind, and then changes it again. With the current system there's no problem if you want to do that. And also there's no problem if you have made your mind and you want a permanent key. You can have it either way.
Once again, I am really sorry for the problems everyone had today and hope that the hosting company resolves this issue soon.
Happy New Year to everyone.
Alejandro
P.S. For anyone reading this I also want to point out that even though some users are having problems accessing the jReviews administration because of invalid local keys, which I know is bad and shouldn't be happening, the frontend of jReviews never stops working, unless you are still using the trial files, and end-users will never notice something is wrong.

Re: Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
Site is back up. It's still a temporary arrangement with my host since I am on vacation, but I hope to make the move to a dedicated server by end of week or start of next week.
Again I apologize for all the issues this has caused and please get in touch with me if you want a permanent key. You can read the knowledge base article "How the license works" for more info.
Happy 2008!

Re: Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
Alejandro,
It's good to see that your site is back up and running. I'm curious, however, why our admin functions quit working when your site was down? It does still raise a concern for those of us who have built up websites around your product. I hope you have a long life and that your business remains successful and profitable, but what happens to us if you, your site or your business are no longer available at some point in the future. Our admin functions shouldn't be dependant on your site.

Re: Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
I will answer briefly, but please post in my forum instead.
You didn't have a valid local key and that is why the administration failed. As I mentioned previously, you can get a permanent key for your domain and even when I am no longer around, suddenly or not, you will still be able to use your site without any problems. If I ever decide to simply stop supporting jReviews for whatever reason, which is not likely to happen for a very long time, I will make sure everyone is taken care off. I will not simply shut down overnight.
Please direct any additional questions directly in the reviewsforjoomla.com forums.

Re: Anyone knows what happened to the jreviews site?
Thanks for clearing that up, Alejandro. Everything has been working fine in these last two days.
