General Search Feature for Forum

Post by ralanyo » Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:56 pm

Is there any plans for a general search feature that searches all topics for the new forum? I am having trouble finding what I am looking for. Most of my searches come up with no results. Using the old forum, I had no trouble.

I apologize if I have over looked something that already exist. If so, please let me know how to use it. Thanks

I have moved your post to the correct forum.

As to your question, well, you may wish to take a look at other posts in this 'correct' forum. Have a bit of confidence that we are working to improve things around here... it all just takes time.

That being said, the Google search up the top right is getting better and better as posts are re-indexed.

Sorry you had to bear the brunt of my frustrations with people complaining, I'm a bit tired and sick of repeating the same thing over and over again.

Hai even inbuilt search function improved a lot in last few days and I think things should be more stable soon. Cheers...

Stable or not allow me to express my deep disappointment on how the forum search will be handled - I won't even mention my opinion on PHPbb3). I personally loved the SMF search method and it REALLY worked. The 'google in phpbb3' is bad looking and doesn't show needed information for searchers (even after a real good index of the many topics).
To be honest you should expect to see a lot of similar questions from now on since no one will be able to actually decipher the results of the 'google in phpbb3' search page... I for one will be in the lookout for another forum where people may be discussing joomla since I don't want to be 'flamed' from asking the same think again around here.

I'm so sorry about the above opinion but I really had to express my frustrations upon the fact that I can't find anything anymore (and it's not the indexing that is at stake). :-\

Will be handled??

phpBB.com is a great example of a very large board using both the built-in search function and the Google integrated search.
phpBB.com is a board with more than double the number of posts as Joomla! at over 2.5 million, and yet the Search works great.
The same will happen with Joomla!, when everything is indexed properly and the Google integrated search is tweaked as needed, nobody will be complaining about the Search function here.
Again, these growing pains are all due to the conversion from the SMF software.

As for being flamed, I’m sure the staff will go lightly on everybody until the Search Function is working to full capacity, which shouldn’t be too long from now.

;D ;D May be he is still in deep sleep. No worries, search is working well now and soon everything will be indexed again in google. I don't think this are world crises.
