How do I change date format?

How do I change date format?

Right now the date on my site comes up as

26 February 2008

I would like it to read

Feb 26, 2008

This is the date appearing at the top of each new article. How do I change that? Thanks.

Thanks very much, but that's Greek to me. Is there any kind of step-by-step for doing this in Joomla 1.5? The files referenced in that link don't apparently exist in 1.5. Thanks for any further pointers.
