I'm a member of a recently formed student group and I've taken on the responsibility for building this group's website.
What I'd like to be able to do is have users be able to see a list of events. They click on an event, look at the details, and click a button like "Register Now". If they're logged in, all is good and they are signed up for that event (events are free btw so no need for paypal, etc). If they're not logged in, they're asked to register, etc.
Now, once a user has signed up for events, they should be able to go to their profile page and see two sections. "Completed/Past Events" & "Upcoming Events". Basically like their status page, to see what events they have attended and what events are coming up. I'd like to have custom fields and for the completed events, a status column with will say like "Attended" etc.
I know CiviCRM might fit pretty well with my criteria but it seems really bloated. Contacts and memberships are different, and CiviCRM doesn't seem too friendly with Joomla. I'm thinking I might need to get a custom solution (shouldn't be too hard to code right?) but do you guys have any suggestions about what existing solutions I may be able to use.
