I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum but I am confused by so many forums and subforums. This seems like the right one.
Anyway, I am even more confused on why templates that I install look so different after I install the demo data. I dont really want the demo data articles, etc. I just like th layout. I thought the template already contains all the modules, suffixes, and goodies built into it. I thought I could just implement those functions, modules, etc., while creating my own articles. But it looks nothing like the demo template site when I install the different templates.
Why is that? What is in the demo data files? I thought it was just articles that uses the different built in formatting module, goodies, in the template itself.
I would appreciate it if someone would explain this to me.

I'll see if I can address your questions, but first you will have to answer a few of mine so we can get you in the right place.
1. What version of Joomla are you working with?
2. What template are you working with?
These are rather key in helping you.

If you're not a part of the solution, you're a part of the problem.

1. Joomla 1.0
2. yoojoomla times template and yootheme page.
I'm thinking of just using the demo data that is included with the templates andjust modifying the articles but I rather learn to do it myself and customize it to what I want it to look like.

Ok. I'm not going to move this thread, specifically because you are not using a template provided by Joomla. You're going to need to contact the creator of the template and ask them about the functionality since they created it, and how best to utilize it.
If you're going to try to create your own template, I suggest some light reading; specifically:
http://dev.joomla.org/content/view/1136/79/
It will at least get you started.
