Baha'i Faith - Official Website of the Baha'is of the United States in Joomla!

Post by ivisage » Mon Dec 19, 2005 5:06 pm

Greetings,
I am a developer for the U.S. Baha'i National Center and have just launched the new public website for the Baha'i Faith in the United States using Joomla! at: http://www.bahai.us

The site has multiple content contributors and offers:
  • Official web presence, links, news, and information on the Baha'i Faith in the United States
  • SEO Optimized template and content grabbing top spots in Yahoo within 1 day after launch searching: baha'i faith or baha'i or bahai faith (Still stabilizing in Google jumping back and forth from #2 to #15)
  • RSS news feed called U.S. Baha'i News which has been accepted by Google News and Yahoo News.
  • Podcasting interviews with individual Baha'is and thier stories
  • Custom template with a strong focus on validation and cross browser support which includes:
Windows PC : Firefox, IE 5, 5.5., 6.0, Netscape, Opera, Flock
Macintosh: Firefox, Safari, Netscape, Flock (IE 5.2 Mac Users get a notice using CSS which hides the site and explains IE 5.2 is not supported and encourages user to download alternate browsers - anyone with IE 5.2 on Mac should check this out)
  • Components/Modules include: DS Syndicate, MosCE, Podcasting Suite, Google Site Maps, Google Analytics built into template, etc..

This project came along at the perfect time as I was able to watch the split of Mambo and Joomla and make a solid decision based on community support. Joomla has been a wonderful learning experience for CMS development and watching the growth of the community has shown the decision to choose Joomla to be the correct one. Thank you all for the work you do to make open source software available to the world. I look forward to Joomla 2.0 and in the interim to JoomFish being added to the core so we can run the site in English and Spanish. I welcome feedback from this community on our new site and look forward to your comments and suggestions.

The Baha'i Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. It is based on the teachings of Baha'u'llah (1817-1892), Who is regarded by Baha'is as the most recent in a line of Messengers of God that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ, and Muhammad.

Baha'u'llah taught that there is only one God and one human family, that all religions represent progressive stages in the revelation of God's Will, and that humanity is reaching its long-awaited stage of maturity, when a peaceful and just world order can finally be realized.

Your Web site is aesthetically inviting and intuitive to navigate.  There's a beautiful Baha'i temple in Milwaukee, and it's wonderful to now know more about this dynamic religion.

Is there a script for the IE Mac message?  I've long been stymied by a few of the users of my sites hanging on to that browser because they're unaware that it is not standards-based.

Greetings,
Thank you for the positive feedback. I am happy to hear that this site is serving folks to find out more about the Baha'i Faith.

The Mac IE work is all done in the CSS!!  :)
I learned to do this from the Css Zen Garden. The site is all contained in a div that is turned off by css for IE on Mac. The Mac IE 5 cannot see CSS if there is a note that contains a backslash. So I put a few styles in the top of the css page that define the warning message... then I put a line of css notation that contains the backslash hack for Mac IE then I redefine the same CSS elements below this backslash hack and thats it. The Mac IE users see the div with the browser warning and everyone else sees the site.

Check out the CSS for the site and the div at the bottom of the page source and you will see what I mean... Hope this helps

Jeffrey

Greetings,
This template was custom built for the Baha'i clients so it is not for sale or offered anywhere free.

I am however, available to develop custom templates solutions as needed.
