developer.joomla.org extremily confusing site, please totally revamp useability
Please totally revamp the whole setup, graphics and useability and understandability, etc of developer.joomla.org, I find
it UTTERLY confusing and extremily hard to use and figure out even now after months of visiting.
Please start over and follow the setup and ease of use of http://mamboforge.net, that site is VERY
useable and not confusing at all even after one or 2 visits and one can find their way around that site to things they
may want to find very simply. Please follow the useability principles better.
I understand people worked very hard on getting this developer.joomla.org site to where it is now, but
I feel it is mostly all lost in vain as the massively confusing nature of it lost the value of all that work.
I think you can do it without too much work if you really understand how important it is to do. There
is no pride lost to follow the mamboforge.net setup again, after all it is most of you who made that setup in the
first place.
Thank you.

We are working to provide some tools that will help with usability. Vague comments like this one don't really help us to address your problems however. If you have specific issues that have not already been hashed out in the forums, please list them.
Thanks

Oops my post was moved to this forum, then I just checked and there were similar posts showing some were also not happy about developer.joomla.org. But a response in one by spacemonkey said:
For now let's just say that we were terribly unhappy with mamboforge (I personally managed it for quite some time), for many reasons. Quite a few of those reasons were beyond our control, so we were stuck on something we couldn't really fix.
Well if that is how core people feel about the mamboforge.net site, then I guess there is not much point
of me saying to follow that site as exactly as possible. Oh well. Maybe I will just write a list of things
I don't like and don't understand about developer.joomla.org then instead and maybe some will be accepted
if the exact mamboforge.net setup won't be.
Thanks

Thing I'd like to see on developer.joomlaforge.net
1. A customizable list of latest x projects.
I'll add to this list gradually.

I don't like how download statistics is reported, as a graphic showing downloads by day. I would like to see total number of downloads since project launch, for example.

If you enlarge the graph, you can change the time interval for it. Click the link below it.

Yes, but it still give me an "evolution" line, if I choose "Project LifeTime", to know the simple information of total downloads I need to sum up the values by myself. The graph is very nice, but doesn't give us the most basic information. How many downloads my packages had? And even more, how does it behave when I have more than 1 package released?
Re : Re: developer.joomla.org extremily confusing site, please totally revamp us
Yes, but you're always a few clicks away from what you need. I agree with Helder ont that point.trompete wrote:helder wrote:I don't like how download statistics is reported, as a graphic showing downloads by day. I would like to see total number of downloads since project launch, for example.

Generally speaking, usability is really poor on the Forge.
For example, searching a projet on the Forge:
- Open Joomla Forge Homepage
- Click on Search dropdown menu
- Click on Search link
- Enter keyword and click on Projetc in the list
- Then click on the Search button (no way to press enter key at this stage since there is no focus on the Search button)
Conclusion: i f you're lucky enough, you 're just 4 clicks away from the Project you were looking for
And the forge is so slooooow

Hi there,
I am sorry, but i didn't follow up the complete discussion about the developer.joomla.org aka SourceForge project yet.
Anyway first of all I want to thank all people that make it real at all.
Ok, now my suggestions.
A better structure is needed urgent, like made here http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,25317.0.html (thanks guilliam ),
perhaps with more different sections.
A project's demo-site-link would be always fine.
Furtheron it would be very nice if "empty" projects could be separated.
There are lots of old ones where nothing happened for months.
Hm... what about kicking those empty projects after two months automatically, for example?
Perhaps it will be fine, if there is a further section for projects where founders are looking for teammates/co-workers.
Just my 2 cents.
PS: Just waiting for four weeks for publishing a new ready project. No confirmation mail till now.
