1.0.6 Beta went out to 100+ people

However the failure was due to me not following proper procedure in that I introduced a new fix after 1.0.6 Beta, as such it did not go out to the testers.

We will fully examine our testing & release procedures.
Will also look to accelerate the strengthening of the dedicated Q&T Group

Rey's intent was golden in trying to squeeze another fix in before release, that's admirable & much appreciated. The effect didn't turn-out so sweet, but I'm sure it'll be something that'll not be repeated procedurely in future releases. I salute the honesty and responsibility displayed here!!

I know I've botched a few remote server kernel recompiles on occassion out of last minute ideas of the best intent.

Thanks for the release!!

Don't be too hard on yourself there Rey, hey it's not like you released windows service pack 2 on people here, that and it's the responsibility for each and every person to test the software on a dev box "before" placing it in service. This is a well known practice that has gone on for years. From the kernel to the top level application. Nothing new here.

Yeah, thanks for the quick fix and the time to all of the development team.  And don't worry Rey, you were on the ball and there is still better support here than there ever will be for paid software and applications.  Again, the team goes well beyond the scope of duty.

Thanks,
Charles

I have to admit, this is the fastest fix turnaround time I've ever seen! :) Kudos to the Joomla! Team! Mistakes happen, but it shows when you've corrected them immediately intead of a year later. :) Seriously, you guys done a great job. I'm about to upgrade my project in development and am looking forward to it.

Great stuff guys. I've been waiting for today to start setting up a new site, rather than installing an older version then upgrading I thought I'd do the whole lot in one go. Managed to install 3rd party components without trouble (ReMOSitory and Joomlaboard) and content updating seems to be working well. The site itself seems to be fine also, everything is where I want it to be, no weird errors etc. So far so good!

Well done!!!!

Neil.  :)

Good to hear Jim, but you might want to think about this and a test box for any other releases. Testing can save many heartaches.

If you have not hacked at the core filess, than copy over files from the complete/full 1.0.7 package (not including the /installation/ folder)

What are the changes to the "madeyourweb" template, and are they important? Are there any good reasons to not use the older one I'm currently using?

Maybe a small item but there is an error when going in administrator/Global Configuration/cache

When the cache folder is unwritable the blurb says:
The cache directory is UNWRITABLE - please set this
directory to chmod755 before
turning on the cache

This should read chmod 777

Also, if the cache folder is unwritable, there is no way to set the cache to off.
http://www.sengers-au.com - Family Tree /Stamboom and other items.
http://www.sengers-au.com/synaxarium.html Coptic Synaxarium Component. Also Koran and KJV Bible component.
There is no failure until you give up

Thanks Rey... I must be using a much older/different version then, because there appear to be a lot more changes than that between my index.php for the template and what was in the 1.07 patch files. The "new" one has a fixed width, colour, etc... whereas mine has those as variables. I guess since mine's working okay, I'll just stick with it.  :)

Rey, I am glad that you emphasise in you own post the need for better procedures and testing. This situation only stresses the need as we previously discussed ( http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,30114.0.html ) That discussion by the way was  just days before the release of 1.0.6 and what happened with that release was the reason for posting that initial thread before its release.

Having said that I must admit that I admire the speed and personal commitment in which you turned this thing around. That is amazing and you have my respect! The public apo was not needed I think. As you said earlier...this is not paid work and we all make mistakes which is an accepted fact in advance.

Now just ask for one advise...How safe is it to implement v1.0.7 or do i better wait a couple of weeks?  ;) ( i did NOT implement 1.0.6)

-Todays Education -

As we all are human we must realize that not everyone is 100%, 100% of the time, so we should error on the side of caution.  When upgrading you should always backup first, then upgrade.  (BigApe Backup) Works nicely!  Then you can always restore in-case there are  errors.

So today I learned this first hand.  I was so confident in Joomla updates that I ran out and got the upgrade 1.0.6.  Thankfully I read the notice posted by Stingrey not to upgrade to 1.0.6 due to a bug.  So once I saw that 1.0.7 was out I ran out slapped it onto the server and went to check the frontend.

To my astonishment I saw all my menus -GONE-

Thanks to Daniel -extended menus- he released a patch and the site is now good to go.  If is was not for his commitment to his module I would have screwed -for days-

So backup before upgrading.... Only makes sense and even the best make mistakes.

Oh one more funny thing I saw when I used spell check -Joomla is caught by the spell checker.  ;D

-good night-

No not really but upgrades in joomla may break modules, bots, and components from 3 parties...  This doesn't mean that the bots, components, or modules are bad but may need to be upgraded to close security fixes or to implement enchancements.  Joomla 1.0.7 in and of itself seems to be working for me!

about Joomla! 1.0.7 upgrade from 1.0.6

Post by fachtopia » Mon Jan 16, 2006 4:13 am

Hello

I just applied the patch 1.0.6 - 1.0.7 and my site is gone with the wind, I just applied 15 minutes ago

http://www.vozllanera.com.do  (nothing)

also I can't get into the administrator http://www.vozllanera.com.do/administrator/

Any hints? Should I have to upload the whole full package 1.0.7?

Regards
