projects could need (security) anouncements infrastructure in the forge

IMHO it' a pitty/pita to have to monitor forums to pick up on updates.
Subscribing to notifications for an anouncement forum still always requires to manualy log-in and mark any messages as read.

Can't the forge software provide anouncement mailinglists to registered projects?

This way staying up to date could be as simple as the subscription to the joomla main project's announcement mailinglists  and the lists of modules one uses.

You can subscribe to the announcement forum and elect to receive the content of the announcement in the email. Then, if you don't want to, you don't need to login at all.

Manually login: If you don't login to browse the forums, then the new post indicators will not be correct for you anyway. But all it takes is for you to login and press the 'mark all forums read' button.

As I undestand it, though, I don't get further forum notifications before I login and read the anouncements.

Would you have any concerns about mailinglists? The anouncement forum is certenly fine for regular boarders and joomla-main for the moment. The situtation could be made quite perfect with an information distribution infrastructure also available for component projects, though. The sourceforge software might even already support mailinglists. (?)

That is not correct. You will receive notification each time a new thread is posted. However you will not receive replies to thread you are subscribed to unless you login.

Mailing lists are yet another medium that would require administration and moderation as well as duplication of announcements. So for the moment we have chosen to use forums.

I am not sure about the finer details of the forge though, perhaps one of the 'forge' guys can update you on that.

OK, if I would get notification for every new topic regardless if I had loged in that would be nice.

The only difference to a plain email notification list would be that the actual message is not contained in the email instead has to be looked up in the web as an additional step. (Could be just a forum setting)

The notifications I got said however:

Which seems to imply the chore to visti the Boards.

Thanks for the hint to the forge's monitorig functionality. Using that infrastructure might be the best solution. From other posts it looks like an administrator would have to tune some settings first, though.

Goto your profile> Notification options> And enble the sending of posts in emails.

So current situation leaves two things remaining:

1) "More [notification] topics may be posted, but you won't receive more email notifications until you return to the board and read some of them."

2) There is no user notification infrastructure for subprojects.
