Disabling Components - sequel

Post by CubaLibre » Wed Jan 18, 2006 8:13 am

Hi all!

In reference to http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,31121.0.html:

I must say that I'm really disappointed about what occurred at the end of this thread as well as other ones of late.

While I have to admit that leo's style of writing can be rather hard to bear sometimes, his mentioning of what happened to the other threads was IMO just pointing out a matter of fact. However, this ongoing locking of threads does nothing good to the community, quite the opposite. And it happend far too often recently, and not always for an apparent reason.

I'm here to help others as well as to discuss and to contribute to the further development of Joomla. This thread was about an issue important to at least some and probably many of the users, whether they know about it or not. Cutting it of has only achieved an aprubt ending to it without any real benefit. And it leaves a bitter aftertaste.

Maybe we all should try to calm down a bit and take a second look at what has taken place. This includes the moderators as well.

Hello Cuba,

I too am disappointed and hope we can now continue with the discussion. We are all here for the same purpose and it's certainly not a pleasant experience when things go awry. I might just point out to you however that this isn't an everyday occurance and the only locked forums recently were that of the same person. We certainly do not want to dismantle an important thread, however, the situation is being handled by forum administration. Thanks Kurt!

Hey Kurt,

I went ahead and cleaned up the other thread so it can be used. It's ready to go.

The really sad thing about all this is that there was a situation where someone in the community was frustrated and showed it, someone else who was trying to explain the problem (me) and couldn't because threads kept getting locked, and then, for whatever reasons (and I am not doubting that they were well-intentioned rjs) posts were removed or edited.

It is very sad to see this kind of behaviour on the Joomla forum.  People DO get upset when they feel their concerns are being dismissed (or misinterpreted) - that's just human nature. However, if we want to all move forward, giving what we can to Joomla! then locking the doors to discussion, removing posts, and otherwise censoring what is said here, is not the way to build a community.

Maybe you would like the job Elpie. While I can appreciate everyone's opinions. I have a job to do and instructions to go by. As mentioned this was turned over to forum administration. I[****edited by Brad*******] but that's just the way it goes. If you have a complaint about a locked thread, you can always complain to the forum administration. I am just the moderator. Out of 18,810 members in this forum, the only locked forums have been from one individual and more lately than previous. While I do appreciate your opinion, I welcome you to sort through the hundred or so posts I do a day. Cencoring posts is  the job of a moderator. Deleting posts is the job of a moderator. Locking threads if need be is the job of the moderator. You don't stand behind the moderator, you have no moderator. If that be your suggestion, then let's trade places.

Thanks for your comments Kurt.

Feel free to PM me any of these other threads that have been closed recently. My job as a Core Member is to ensure the smooth running of the community on these forums. Any help you can give is much appreciated.

It's true we all need to calm down, however believe me when I say that there is more than meets the eye.

I would love to leave this issue alone for a few days, allow emotions to cool, and tackle it a bit later...

I hope others feel the same way. :)

Fine with me...... conditionally:

I feel offended by this remark so please remove that insult. You are pointlessly attacking me here andd calling me names. I kindly ask you to remove that line from your thread.

If that is removed i will leave it for the next days, give my normal full spammed support to this community and wait for your call..
