Re: Discussion about : Core Team Announcement
Glad to see more fresh blood in the Core, hoping to see all this SOC stuff integrted asap, hope to see Nic & JM around as much as possible, and.. a question:
any further statements about all the "mia" Core members? just resting or..?
*some* names recently made a comeback on SVN over the last few days, but others seem to have vanished into thin air..?
Keep up the excellent work all, thanks!

Re: Discussion about : Core Team Announcement
I wish the "new" core members al lot of success and also a lot of integrity, representing such a large community.
I am amazed and also concerned that the project director, Mr. Andrew Eddie, is not making this important announcement and i am also concerned that two highly respected members of this community are not being properly shown any gratitude for their efforts to this community with this announcement.
I personally would like to thank Jean-Marie and Nic for their involvement and highly appreciated contribution. Keep in touch mes amis!
Related to announcements it seems that much more restructuring and changes are being made without informing this community.......Very simple examle Johan Janssens position has always been" PHP Developer/Javascript specialist " (see "about us" section of the joomla.org-site) In this announcement he seems to have been promoted to Lead Developer of Joomla.......(being before an external sort of party hired to do some specific work on Joomla 1.1.....) I kindly ask Andrew Eddie as the project director to clarify this situation?
As Joe (Eyezberg) referred....where are the core members from the early Joomla-hours and who are indeed still real and honestly active ?

Hi Leo
It has been mentioned in several threads that Johan has taken over development team lead for 1.1. I think this thread can be of interest and explains the changes.

Re: Discussion about : Core Team Announcement
change is always certain.......
My concern with Nics departure is the effect on accessibility. When people with expertise leave an organisation (even an open source one) usually their role is filled in some way or refined/reworked.
Some more details on accessibility and roles I would welcome......as this my one major interest in joomla.
Joomla is certainly moving fast and as always I look forward to installing the next release.....

Re: Discussion about : Core Team Announcement
Just wanted to weigh in on a couple thoughts here - I hope you don't mind
I'm equally interested in accessibility, however we need 1.1 to really make that possible in the first place - so we are definitely headed in the right direction.
I've been in the core for a couple years now, so I don't understand this whole tinfoil hat conspiracy theory that everyone has been replaced with body snatchers or whatever. Can someone please explain?
And finally, we are an open source project. Always have been, and always will be. It is a complete marvel that we have not had more turnover than we have, and is a testament to the people on the core and their dedication to the project.
We are a non-profit effort - and your turnover ratio at typical NPOs is hundreds (thousands?) of times higher. Having two people leave (and more than double that join) in one month should not indicate alien abduction or sinister pacts with the devil. This is just natural. I have not always been 100% available to the project, and as an unpaid volunteer I don't think it is fair to expect me to be 100% available all the time, across the whole year.
Joomla is growing, a lot more than back in the good ol' Mambo days where 8 or 9 people could manage the load. It takes more time to do more, especially from an administrative point of view. So we are all learning where we can best contribute to the project. I used to be wholly interested in writing code, for example. But now I am almost totally focused on advocacy and administrative work, as it needs to get done and I find it fun and challenging.
So if you see someone playing a role that they didn't before, that certainly doesn't mean anything bad has happened. In fact it should be good news, as it means we are all evolving with the project as it evolves.
Welcome to the new folks, please let them enjoy the announcement of their addition to the project.
Also, I am proud to have worked with Nic and Jean-Marie, heck I even shared a room with the mad Frenchman! hehe

Re: Discussion about : Core Team Announcement
So you got some of the good Cognac, did you..?
My question was just: are the ones not "visible" (for lack of a better term) currently still aboard or not? Simple curiosity. Like Tim, Andy and Alex for example.. It's just that you get used to see some people around, and after some time of no news, start wondering whatever happened to them, that's all..
