Issues with the newer 'joomla' sites

Post by PrincessFiona » Sat Feb 11, 2006 8:02 pm

I guess I'm sounding like a complainer today.  :P

I've been trying to work on my joomla website and I've found the experience to be really frustrating.  I used to be a mambo user...and the mambo sites were very easy to find and use...mambohut, mamboforge, etc.  I was able to easily browse through categories of components or templates for my version of mambo, etc.

What I've found is that the the newer 'joomla' sites aren't very easy to use....for example, joomlahut pretty much just displays the mambo files and still has the mambo logo...apparently, the site wants to do both mambo and joomla?  I'm having a hard time finding a good, easy source for only the joomla components.  I am not interested in browsing throught he mambo stuff or mambo templates etc.

Are there new sources out there dedicated just to the joomla that are current and easy to use?

I'm trying to make sure that all of my components are joomla 1.0.7 compatible, but what I notice is that many of the components aren't listed there (ie cafepress).  When I go to Joomla Portal, for example, the only files available are for Mambo and the cafepress component that they have doesn't work on the joomla.  There isn't even a listing of joomla files...and yet it is no longer called mambo portal, but joomla portal.  I find that all very confusing.

Thanks for the other tip though.  I suppose this is just part of the growing pains of the project, but it does seem like the websites titled 'joomla' should include the joomla files now...joomlahut, etc...  Another issue is that one of the main places linked to download files (joomlaya) isn't working and hasn't been for awhile now...at least every time I try.  So..I find a file that I want and click on download...it takes me to a joomlaya site that is no longer working.

It's frustrating for the newbie.

Hi,

I know what you mean, sometimes a bit difficult to find something and determain whether it will work on Joomla! or not. You can also check this topic: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,25317.0.html. The listed add-ons should work on Joomla! as well.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
